BUT—you may be sure that the Board of Supervisors of Orange County has ideas—plenty of them, and good ones too. For you see, $690,882—that's right: six hundred ninety thousand, eight hundred and eighty-two dollars—is the amount of property taxes paid to Orange County alone by the Southwest Exploration Company for the year end June 30,1952. This $690,882 is in addition to the property taxes paid to other communities and also is in addition to the royalties paid from the production of undersea at Huntington Beach. This $690,882 is likewise in addition to taxes paid to the State of California and to the United States Treasury. Royalties from these wells have provided money for beach improvements, recreational purposes, veterans’ welfare, and the general fund.
