Son of Pioneer Seeks to Reopen Probate Action on Fabulous Estate Petition to reopen probate proceedings in the pioneer Rimpau estate, comprising Anaheim and Los Angeles property now of fabulous value, will be presented to Superior Judge Raymond Thompson in Santa Ana tomorrow by James Rimpau of Los Angeles, son of the late Mrs. Francisco de Rimpau, early day Anaheim woman who died Feb. 7, 1903. The estate was settled 47 years ago. Her will, probated March 2, 1906, left an estate then appraised at $529,954.78 to her widower and nine sons and daughters. Its private value now would run into the millions, according to court attaches. It included 535 acres of the Rancho La Cienaga, now heavily developed in rich Beverly Hills, appraised in 1916 at $41,000. There was a lot on Olvera st., Los Angeles, appraised at $5000; a triangular lot at Alameda and Los Angeles sts., appraised at $1500. Between 1903 and probate of the will in 1906, a parcel of 127 acres between Washington and Pico sts. was sold to a J. W. Beardsley for $88,884.60, or $700 per acre. The state included an original vineyard lot in Anaheim, occupying approximately a square block, which was appraised at $10,000 in 1906. The sons purpose in petitioning for reopening the estate was not disclosed beyond the brief statement that there are newly discovered assets of the estate. It will come before Judge Thomson tomorrow on the regular Friday morning probate calendar, probably to be set for hearing at a later date. Weather Southern California — Scattered cloudiness Friday but mostly sunny days. A few afternoon thundershowers in the vicinity of the mountains and night and morning fog but mostly sunny afternoons along the cost. Little change in temperatures. Chamber Speaker Raps Anaheim Shopping Center Speaking to the monthly membership meeting of Anaheim Chamber of Commerce this noon Don Gelsert of the Kawnee C.O.F.D. of Los Angeles was brutally frightened in advising the city council, service groups, Chamber, etc. of Anaheim to modernize the downtown section or they will be in "retrouble." "Anaheim is proud of having beaten the parking problem." He said, "but the real reason there is so much parking space down town is that local merchants aren't getting their share of the area's business." Residents around Anaheim, he said, have $12,000,000 to spend but Anaheim merchants aren't getting their share of it. Gelsert noted that "dingy Anaheim store fronts hide advantages the local merchant has to offer." Gelsert was introduced by Chamber Manager Earnie Moeller. New Record Set In Registration Of County Voters Forecast of 123,000 registered voters eligible to take part in the Visit by Defense Secretary May Bring Peace in Aircraft Strikes LOS ANGELES (P)—Secretary of Defense Robert A. Lovett is due tonight to inspect Southern California’s aircraft production facilities, including the struck plants at Douglas at El Segundo and Lockheed at Burbank. He is on a tour of air facilities in the Southwest. May Mean Peace There were some reports that his visit might pave the way for a peace move to confer tomorrow with officials of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and Douglas Aircraft Company. Officials of the striking AFL International Association of Machinists said they “will make every effort to contact him while he is here.” Strike Spreads Yesterday the strike in Burbank spread as AFL culinary workers bartenders and teamsters respected the IAM picket lines. As a result service at Lockheed Air Terminal’s Sky Room restaurant, coffee shop, bar and newsstand was suspended. Airplane flights were not interrupted. The terminal facilities are adjacent to the main offices and plants of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation where the IAM went on strike at El Segundo began Sept. 15. Approximately 40,000 employees are involved in the two strikes. The union is asking wage boosts at both plants. Negotiations are stalled. Issues Appeal At Lockheed, President Robert E. Gross issued an indirect appeal for all workers to return to their jobs. He proposed an in-plant election conducted by an impartial body to permit all Lockheed employees in the IAM bargaining unit to vote by secret ballot on a subsequent offer by the company. Verne Stevens Reportd Missing In Navy Jet Verne Floyd Stevens, 27, a brother of William R. “Steve” Stevens, 721½ N. Clementine st. Anaheim, was reported missing in the wreck of a Navy jet trainer yesterday. The Navy reported that Stevens body was not found in the wreckage of the airplane and that the ejector seat was also missing, indicating that the Anaheim Union high school graduate had attempted to parachute to safety. The plane is a complete wreck, they said. Navy helicopters and patrol planes are making an intensive search in the area around Kissimmee Beach, Fla., where the wreck occurred Sept. 22, for Stevens. During World War II, Stevens served in the South Pacific and after the war was flight engineer on the airplane used by the president of the Philippine Islands. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Stevens, reside in Yuba City. New Record Set In Registration Of County Voters Forecast of 123,000 registered voters eligible to take part in the general election Nov. 4, a new all-time record registration for Orange county, was made today by County Clerk B. J. Smith who registrar of voters. That total now indicated a likely, said Smith, would reprecent a gain of about 15,000 votes since the June primary election. Exact total of the November registration must be reported to the secretary of state by next Tuesday. Smith announced that 14 new voting precincts would be created for the November election, due to the rapid increases in registration. Some precincts have accumulated such a heavy registration that two election boards operated in them for the June primary. A number of such precincts have since been divided, but there was not sufficient time to cover the entire county and many precincts still will have double election boards in November. Smith stated: All having more than 400 voters will be so operated. The new total of precincts for the approaching general election is 338. Further division of precincts will be carried on after the biennial purge of voting lists, in which those voters who failed to cast ballots at either the June primary or November general election will be dropped from the registration lists. Thousands are dropped after each general election, being required to register again before they are eligible to vote. The ship is missing on maneuvers off the Riviera since yesterday morning. "The Sibylee must be considered as lost," said a Naval Ministry communique. It added that the ship had not surfaced at 9:30 a.m. yesterday as scheduled and that searchers had found an oil slick and "various objects now in the course of being identified" six miles east of Cap Camarat, near the Riviera resort of St. Tropez. Band Leader's Wife Killed in Auto Accident Thrown from a racing sports car last night at Balboa, Mrs. Mary Guyon MacAlvey, 32, Corona del Mar, former wife of King Guyon, the orchestra leader, was killed instantly as the car plunged into deep water. The water in that area is about 2100 feet deep. The Navy had explained earlier that its rescue equipment could not operate below depths of 150 to 180 feet. The sub reportedly had an escape mechanism permitting the crew to surface one by one, but so far no men had been reported picked up. The communique said: "The security buoy of the Sibylee was found but the cable linking it to the submarine was broken. The center of the oil slick, which extended over a large area, corresponds with the position which the submarine occupied when last in sound contact." 48 Men Aboard The communique added that the crew of the sub included five officers, nine non-commissioned officers and 34 men. The Navy said the sub had enough oxygen aboard to last until early tomorrow morning. The ministry spokesman said plane and ship patrols would continue the search. Failed to Surface The 1000-foot sub failed to run. Band Leader's Wife Killed in Auto Accident Thrown from a racing sports car last night at Balboa.
