Miss Marcella Sanchez, 16, 6501 S. Hansen s.s. Buena Park, was crushed to death under her car when it went out of control on Chapman ave. at Ninth st., North of Garden Grove. Time of the accident was placed at about 1 a.m. Sunday, the crash being heard by a nearby Anaheim VFW in Big Leap In ‘Buy in Anaheim’ Drive With 500,300 votes cast last Friday to fuel its drive, Anaheim Veterans of Foreign Wars post jumped from 12th place in the standings to 7th place with 504,900 votes. Boy Scouts of America remained well ahead in first place with 2,033,900 votes with Bethel Baptist church second with 1,481,100 votes. St. Michael’s Episcopal church holds third place resident. Claudina st., Anaheim, receive minor injuries. Campaign Goal of $28,158.78 Will Be Met on Time, Chairmen Predict The annual fund raising campaign of the Anaheim Community chest officially opened today with a net quota increase of $5858.76, needed to meet the approved budget requests of the six Red Feather agencies. According to Chest President Ray Reafsyder, campaign co-chairmen Robert Root and Paul Cook have expressed confidence that the residents of Anaheim high school district, which is the local chest area, will once again put Anaheim "over the top" as they did in last year's campaign. Anaheim was one of the two chests in Orange county that achieved their goal last year. According to chest officials, one of the privileges of the contributor that has been largely overlooked and that would aid greatly in the campaign, is the right to "desig-nate funds." Persons residing within the Anaheim chest area, but who are employed outside and who contribute at their place of employment are entitled to designate their funds to the Anaheim Community chest without compromising their employers' record of total contributions and become a member of the local chest. A special appeal is being made this year for people to take advantage of this right. Advance gifts chairman, Dick Gay, reports that contributions totaling $109 or more entitles the contributor to a membership in the Century club, whose roster will be published in the Gazette, and that already some have been received. Anaheim Boy In Hospital With Polio Addition of six new cases, including an Anaheim child, to the 1952 list of polio cases over the weekend, brought the year's total to 104, as health authorities predicted a record high year. The present high total for one year is 106 cases. Dennis Chance, 11, of 418 S. Indiana st., Anaheim, who became ill Sept. 14, was taken to the County hospital and placed in a respirator. He was reported suffering from the serious bulbar type of polio. Other cases reported, some of them being treated at their homes for light attacks of polio, were Paul Murillo, 4, Elliot Leach, 3½, and Marilyn Boyes, 12, all of Santa Ana; Daniel Mendoza, 28, Westminster; and Samuel Melielan, 24 of Costa Mesa. Marine Fined for Drunk Driving Herbert V. Hollensteiner, 20, an El Toro Marine, paid $150 of a $250 fine levied against him this morning for drunken driving. Hollensteiner was the driver of the car that, on Sept. 9, left a wake of hit-run drive terror on his way from Santa Ana to Anaheim. Robert Joseph Stushek, 20, and Paul H. Woodall, 30, also Marines and companions on the chase with Hollensteiner, were each fined $25 for being drunk in an automobile. Donald Spencer is New Assistant Appointment of Donald Spencer, 37, of Placentia, as the new assistant in the county personnel department has been announced by Personnel Director William Hart, in Santa Ana. Brinker and Sons, contractors, this morning reported that vandals had been at work again in their subdivision on Redondo dr., just west of West st. on North st. A neighbor, Fred Klein, also a contractor, caught two boys near the tract who may have been implicated in the malicious mischief and turned them over to police who are investigating. A hole was knocked into a plaster wall in one partially completed house, a cement mixer was overturned, and two sacks of plaster were torn open and the plaster thrown about. Rachard Nixon, waging in dramatic fashion his battle for political life, flew to Los Angeles today to prepare for a TV and radio report to the people in his questioned finances. His flight, representing a sharp change in campaign plans, was the strongest sign yet he will stay on as the Republican candidate for vice president. The California senator, caught in a campaign squeeze, by his $18,000 expense fund, broke off his current western trip temporarily to present his case before the people either tomorrow or Wednesday night.
