IN THE DAYS OF
LONG AGO
From the Files of
Anaheim Gazette
By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL
September 1877
There were no additions made to the reporter's budget from the Justice's court yesterday. The worthy Judge spent the entire day nodding on his bench, just occasionally making a few listless attempts to catch a fly that was taking undue liberties with His Honor's bald pate. The attorney's sat upon the sidewalk and whittled sticks and told strange yarns of how old suits had been won, or lounged lazily on their chairs. Our reporter sat awhile
New Youth Choir
Makes Double Service Possible
"White Temple Methodist church of Anaheim would find it impossible to inaugurate our new plan of two duplicate church services every Sunday morning, which begins Oct. 5, without our newest choir, the Youth choir, which will sing for the 9 o'clock service," states Rev. Frank E. Butterworth, pastor. Under the direction of Harlan D. Anderson, minister of music, the new choir begins rehearsals tonight (Wednesday). It will form an integral part of the midweek youth night program at the church, and will form a connecting link between the two children's choirs and the adult Temple choir.
The church is seeking to reach a wider number of families and wondered what effect a small earthquake would have upon the legal talent about that time, and then wandered off, in search of more exciting news.
The hours for transaction of business at the money order office are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Parties in Los Angeles are endeavoring to get up a corner on hay.
Mrs. Hayes, the lady who went to Yuma in search of her runaway husband and $1200 of her money, which he had carried off, returned yesterday after a bootless chase. She had her husband and his companions arrested, but she alleges a collusion between the officers of Yuma and the runaways whereby their baggage was concealed and kept from her. Mrs. Hays is known as an honest, hardworking woman, who has been greatly wronged—Express.
It is stated that the petition of James Irvine for a reduction in the assessment of the San Joaquin ranch before the board of equalization has been withdrawn.
A fire took place yesterday in the furniture shop of Messrs. Stroble and Kammerle, located on Spring st., Los Angeles. The building was the property of Sam Hellman.
Twenty guns were fired in San Buenaventura on Friday in honor of Bard's nomination to the senate.
The proposed delegates to the Republican convention to be voted on.
TODAY'S CROSS-WORD PUZZLE
A fire took place yesterday in the furniture shop of Messra. Stroble and Kammerle, located on Spring st., Los Angeles. The building was the property of Sam Hellman.
Twenty guns were fired in San Buenaventura on Friday in honor of Bard's nomination to the senate.
The proposed delegates to the Republican convention to be voted for at Santa Ana today are M. A. Peters, J. H. Moesser, M. Cobler, C. P. Snyder.
The church is seeking to reach a wider number of families and to help relieve congestion in its overcrowded church school by beginning double morning worship services at 9 and 11 a.m., and by offering parents a choice of enrolling their children in either of two two-hour sessions of children's departments: from 9-11 or from 10-12. Junior highs will meet from 9-11 only, and youth and adult departments between services (10-11 a.m.). The Youth choir will sing at the first service; the Temple choir at the second service; but otherwise the two morning services will be exactly alike. Evening services will continue at 7 o'clock each Sunday night, followed by both youth and adult fellowship group meetings.
