Those on shore could hear the rippling, splashing water. Suddenly there was a call for help. "Help!" I can't make it! he shouted. ... Those on shore thought he was joking. "Quit kiddin'! Alpha Beta Site And Buildings Sold for $125,000 Three important real estate transactions, including sale of the Alpha Beta market property at 1010 S. Main st., Santa Ana; 80 acres of land north of Talbert, and a large Balboa Island residence, were disclosed today with the filing of deeds for recording at County Recorder Ruby McFarland's office. Market Sold The Alpha Beta market site and buildings were sold to Mrs. Delorez M. Ferguson, wife of Charles E. Ferguson, executive vice-president of Daystrom Furniture Corp., Pacific division, which operates a plant at 311 S. Highland st., Fullerton. Revenue stamps on the deed indicated that the purchase price was $125,000. A trust deed from Mrs. Ferguson for $65,000, for the benefit of the sellers was recorded at the same time as security for a note for that amount. The trust deed covers the market property. SA Council Calls For Protection at Hazardous Corner Urging protective measures at "mad dash corner," the intersection of Santa Ana blvd. and Flower st., Santa Ana, the city council there last evening passed a resolution requesting the state highway department to install electric signals at the intersection where traffic accidents are frequent. Even though the signals would remain there only a few months, until Santa Ana freeway is completed, the saving of life and property would justify the expense, said Councilman Milford Dahl, in proposing the resolution. The council asked bids on the four remaining two-story buildings in Casa de Santa Ana, post-war veterans housing project operated by the city until last July 1. Bids will be opened Oct. 20. Purchase of 12,000 feet of cast iron water pipe was approved, on acceptance of the bid of $17,424 submitted by the U.S. Pipe and Foundry Co. The sellers retained one fourth of the oil and mineral rights on the 80 acres. Executed Notes The Hara's executed a $26,000 note and trust deed covering the property for the benefit of the sellers. The Ishii's executed a first trust deed of $26,000 and a second trust deed of $20,880 to the sellers, who assigned the second trust deed to Martin. The Balboa Island property, first deeded by Dorothy T. Culver to Merrill Culver of 127 E. Bay Front, Balboa Island, then was deeded by the latter to Tod Oviatt, 322 Apclena st., Balboa Island, at a figure of $42,500, as shown by revenue stamps on the deed.
