The Bethel Baptist Young People will be coming to the relief of the warm, and tired shopper, Friday evening with home-made ice cream, cakes, pies, coffee, and candy. The refreshments will be for sale on the lawn of the educational building at the corner of Lemon and Broadway sts., from 9:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This means has been chosen by the young people of Bethel Baptist to help raise the money they have pledged for the Christian Youth Center, which is to be built on the second lot east of the church. Most towns the size of Anaheim have a Christian Youth Center, and the Bethel Baptist young people are trying to do their part in seeing that Anaheim will soon have a Youth Center also. If the youth of Anaheim are reached with the truth, less money will be spent on law enforcement.

The almost daily purchases of well pipe from our friend Joe Bennerscheidt, speaks well for the enterprise of the farmers south of us.
A Mexican while displaying his equestrian accomplishments on Los Angeles street yesterday attempted to dismount gracefully in front of the Star Restaurant. He succeeded admirably in dismounting, but unfortunately fell into the trough of water which stands in front of the restaurant for the benefit of thirsty beasts. The chagrin of the elegant horseman can better be imagined than described.

August 1902
A crowd of about 300 persons witnessed last Saturday night the drawing of the 60-piece dinner set in front of Harris & Falkenstein's department store. The big window had been cleared for the purpose and at the time set for the drawing, John Hartung of the Citizen's Bank, armed with a hatchet, entered the window. The boxes containing the coupons were handed to him and, in view of all, he emptied the contents into a basket which was then covered with a table cloth. This done, Miss Edith Wallop was led, blindfolded to the basket and took from it one number, which she handed to Mr. Hartung, who read it aloud to the people. The number drawn was 6937, and Fred Dettmer, who recently bought Mrs. Standolph's place west of town, was the lucky winner, and he carried off the pretty set, envied by many a good housekeeper, who had hoped to be the proud possessor of such a valuable addition of her household.
Welborn Wallop and Bowman Merritt left on Tuesday for Berkeley, to enter the university. Steve Rimpau and John Dauser go north on Sunday, and Carl Zeus on Wednesday. A. G. Baker is already there as is also Snyder of West Anaheim.

Stephenson. The latter urged the club to stress the fact that bikes are to be ridden on the right side of the street—that it is against the law to ride them on the left side. He reported that only about three accidents out of 200 in the past year in Anaheim involved bicycles.
Also commenting favorably on the Optimist campaign were Mel Gauer, business manager of the school system, Wilbert Bonney, Benjamin Franklin school principal, Chester Fowler, Fremont principal; B. J. Maddox, Horace Mann principal; Mrs. Norman Keup of Zion P-TA and Mrs. Midge Simon, P-TA council president.
Optimist President Al Garey presided.
Last of Older Social Security Payments Mailed
Social Security checks mailed Sept. 3 to 8700 Orange county people were the last under the old rates of payment, according to Garret W. List, manager of the Santa Ana social security office. Payments due to the same people early in October will amount to about $366,000.00.
As a result of changes made in the social security law in July, nearly everyone receiving old-age and survivors insurance benefits will get higher payments. Most retired workers will receive increases ranging from $5 to $8.60. Increases for dependents and survivors will be less than those for retired workers. In most cases, these increases will be about $2 to $5.
"For example," List says, "A retired insured worker whose August payment was $40, based on earnings received since 1936, will get a September payment of $45; a worker who got $68,50 in the current check will get $77.10 the first week in October."
List says that it will not be necessary for persons now getting old-age and survivors insurance payments to call or come to the Santa Ana social security office to get the increases. The checks they will receive early in October will automatically carry the increased amounts.
There was every appearance of a thunderstorm in the mountains north of Anaheim yesterday.

Bonded Homes' Second Unit Selling Fast
Quick public acceptance of Bonded Homes, Inc., has brought the sale of one-third of the homes in the developer's second Anaheim residential community at East and La Palma streets, just north of Center st. on a site which formerly was an orange grove.
The heavy advance sale was announced today by C. Fred Smith, president of the firm, who credited a number of features and special factors for the popularity of the 94-dwelling, three-bedroom, 1½-bath development.
He cited the rustic, groovelike character of the community, maintained in the retention of full-bearing orange trees on most of the locations.
Homes are priced from $13,550 to $13,750, and are available to purchasers on either FHA or VA terms.
Three completed residences serve as model dwellings, parading many special features of Bonded Homes, Inc. In the first Bonded Homes development in Anaheim, instant public favor caused a complete sellout almost as soon as the property went on the market, officials reported.
The new development is the second phase of a program which calls for construction by Bonded Homes, Inc., of 460 homes with a total valuation of approximately $5,000,000 in Anaheim within the coming year.
Largest residential building program ever undertaken by a single firm, the program actually will provide more homes than have been constructed by all builders combined in Anaheim in the past several years, company officials declared.
