Many balloons were used for decorating the garden, and the many colored lights added to the attractiveness of the decorations. Huge containers of lemonade with popcorn, sandwiches, relishes and the large birthday cake, beautifully decorated with yellow roses and inscribed with congratulations to Dad, Vera, Virginia, Herb and Mom graced the birthday table on which was a birthday tablecloth with mapkins to match. Each guest was presented with a name plate, thus making it easy to get acquainted. Party hats were also presented to each guest. Many of the guests brought their own musical instruments, so the music for the dancing and singing throughout the evening was provided by those guests who made up the band. HENRY KUCHEL 75 Years Ago August 1877 Officer Wartenburg intruded upon the peaceful afternoon nap of our worthy Justice yesterday by bringing in two Chinamen whom he found indulging in a little Donneybrook Fair exercise near a wash-house on First North street. The Celestials made the court room hideous with their outlandish jargon until Judge Bailey informed them that unless they were silent they would be sent to jail without even the fomality of a trial. It was impossible to find out who struck Billy Patterson in the affray, so a complaint was made out charging them both with disturbing the peace quiet 50 Years Ago August 1902 Mrs. J. W. Feature of the meeting was brief talk by Mrs. Wilbert Beauregard by bringing in two Chinamen whom he found indulging in a little Donneybrook Fair exercise near a wash-house on First North street. The Celestials made the court room hideous with their outlandish jargon until Judge Bailey informed them that unless they were silent they would be sent to jail without even the fomality of a trial. It was impossible to find out who struck Billy Patterson in the affray, so a complaint was made out chargibn them both with disturbing the peace, quiet and dignity of the town of Anaheim. The Chinamen's explanation of how the row commenced was unintelligible. We did not wait to learn what disposal was made of the belligerents, but were fully convinced that a day or two spent in Bohn's private apartments for city guests would do neither of them any harm. A slight unpleasantness took place on Los Angeles street last evening caused by too much whiskey, and too many plasterers. There were no arrests made. One of our Aldermen was compelled to desist from the congenial pursuit of going through a customer at set-back euchre, in order to attend a meeting of the Town Council—and yet there are people who sneer at patriotism.
