Mrs. Jug Head, one of the Orange County Fair's famed racing ostriches, is expected to win most of the Ostrich Derbys being staged each afternoon and evening during the 1952 exhibition which opens today and will continue for a five-day run through Sunday, Aug. 17, at the fairgrounds on Highway 55 between here and Newport Beach. Reason for her tremendous burst of speed is that she is "expecting" and after her stint around the track rushes back to her nest to set on her egg which, from all indications, will be hatched into a baby ostrich sometime during the fair. Gene Holter, animal trainer and owner of the bird, predicts twins. Judging from the size of the egg, he thinks it might have a double yolk. Rare Minerals On Exhibit at County Fair An interesting Gem and Mineral Show is being staged in connection with the 1952 Orange County fair which opened yesterday for a five-day run through Sunday, Aug. 17, at the fairgrounds located on Highway 55, between here and Newport Beach. Part of the fair's huge Hobby Show, this will be the annual exhibition of the Orange Coast Mineral and Lapidary Society, sponsor of the event. Special attraction will be the world-famous collection of jade and semi-precious gem carvings owned by I. L. Chow of the Peking Curio Shop of Los Angeles. Visitors to the fair will be able to see rare minerals on display. Anaheim's newest commercial building will be opened tomorrow by the city's newest paint merchants, handling a line of paints entirely new to this area. The building is the Rimpau block, located just north of the office of Anaheim chamber of commerce on N.-Los Angeles st. Dolores Harrison Dies After Illness Dolores S. Vermont ave., after a prolonged illness. She is survived by her husband, Jease Harrison; three sons, Donald Owen, Robert Lynn and Lawrence Edward Harrison; one daughter, Janice Lynette Harrison, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Surgue of Anaheim. She was a member of the Fullerton Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be conducted from the Hilgenfeld chapel Friday at 2 o'clock. Rev. S. Cash receipts for admission and instruction fees totaled $7563.78. KC Installation Set for Aug. 25 Installation services for Anaheim Knights of Columbus have been set for Aug. 25 with Barney Jordan, district deputy grand knight, as installing officer. The announcement was made at Tuesday's meeting held in KC hall, with Grand Knight Don May presiding. Dr. Joe Ersek, program chairman, introduced the speaker, Ray Damerell, Alpha Beta buyer and Anaheim Toastmasters' secretary, who related fishing anecdotes and described different types of fishermen. "The pot fisherman fishes with fancy bait," he explained, "but the crackpot fisherman uses anything ready to his hand." It's ocean fishing for him from now on, Damerell said, and related his lack of luck when he traveled to Yellowstone on a "hot" tip and spent three fruitless days of fish hunting. Ersek closed the meeting by outlining the program for the coming year. Anaheimer Dies William M. Cooper, a resident of Anaheim for the past five years, died yesterday in Fullerton General hospital. New Anaheim Anaheim's newest commercial building will be opened tomorrow by the city's newest paint merchants, handling a line of paints entirely new to this area. The building is the Rimpau block, located just north of the office of Anaheim chamber of commerce on N.-Los Angeles st. The merchants are Reynolds Meade, for 12 years a painting contractor here, and his two sons, Curtis, 21, and Darrell, 17. They will operate under the name of Meade and Sons. Official opening has been set for tomorrow and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tibbetts paints, manufactured in Los Angeles' oldest paint factory, will be featured in the new store. Reynolds Meade said he had his choice of paint brands, but chose the Tibbetts line because of its excellence. He has been given exclusive local dealer rights by the company. The wallpaper department at Meade and Sons will handle all nationally advertised brands, but will feature Nancy Warren wallpapers. New Nancy Warren patterns for 1953 will be shown for the first time during the two opening days. Meade intends to bring an entirely new idea in paint merchandising to Anaheim. "My idea is that home owners can profit by a personalized home painting service," he explained. "Instead of trying to sell him a paint job, we'll sell him paint and brushes and have other necessary tools available here for him. They will help him with color problems." 24,037 Persons Use City Plunge Anaheim's investment in a plunge for City park continues to pay off—in pleasure and instruction for Anaheimers.
