Unusual Collection Of Stamps Among Fair Exhibits
The largest stamp exhibition probably ever held in Southern California is now being presented at the 1952 Orange County Fair, slated for a five-day run through Sunday, Aug 17, at the fairgrounds on Highway 55, between here and Newport Beach.
The postage stamp exhibition, part of the huge Hobby Show, will feature many of the country's rare and unusual collections.
One of the featured displays will be the remarkable collection of stamps honoring the zeppelins, along with many unusual photos showing the history and flights of these now historic lighter-than-air dirigibles. This collection is owned by Hans Wippler of Newport Beach.
Another unusual attraction will be the display of the world famous collection of Ecuador stamps, which will include the personal postal issues of the President of Ecuador. This display, owned by C. Glenn Curtis, Brea physician, will be highlighted by photos of the country and the display of two genuine, native Ecuadorian shrunken heads used in the Hollywood film, "Headhunters of Ecuador," soon to be released.
Equalization Board Says No Valuation Hike
SACRAMENTO — The State Board of Equalization has concluded today that no orders to raise valuations of locally assessed property in any county will be made, nor will the Board lower its assessments on public utilities.
Last year, some fourteen counts were reported provided by broadcasters.

Board Says No Valuation Hike
SACRAMENTO — The State Board of Equalization has concluded today that no orders to raise valuations of locally assessed property in any county will be made, nor will the Board lower its assessments on public utilities.
Last year, some fourteen counties were believed to have been substantially below the average in their assessment ratios for property tax purposes. This year the Board found only six counties that it believed might be in this category.
Hearings were held here this week with respect to these counties. Evidence indicated improvement in the assessment practices in each. What variations might remain in the assessment ratios in these six counties, the Board concluded would be almost impossible to determine from the data available. The Board has left these valuations where they now are.
State-assessed taxpayers will also be left at the valuation level that the Board has previously determined for their property. All petitions filed by these public utilities for decreases in assessed valuations have been denied accordingly.
MECCA PILGRIMAGE PLANNED THIS YEAR
SINGAPORE (P)—A total of 5,700 pilgrims from Singapore, Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Brunei are expected to sail for Mecca this year.
A spokesman for the Moslem advisory board said strict measures would be carried out prior to sailing to avoid, as far as possible, deaths or births among pilgrims. Mecca pilgrimages from this area in the past have been marked by disease and deaths.
