The man who committed one of Orange county's most heinous crimes in Buena Park was released from jail just two weeks before he perpetuated his dastardly deed. The man who hacked his friend to death in Atwood in a drunken brawl, likewise, was mentally unbalanced. Why are such menaces to society released to prey on the innocent when their criminal tendencies are so evident? Veteran Orange county law enforcement officers are at a loss to explain why nothing is done to curb this menace to society. It seems that the wrong type of a criminal is imprisoned while the dangerous element is turned loose. What's wrong with the parole boards? What's wrong with these psychiatrists who judge an insane man sane? What's wrong with a society that permits proven potential criminals to enjoy freedom while those, who haunted by money problems, write bum checks, and go to prison. What's more important? Money or someone's life. If you lose money, you lose something; but if you lose your life you lose everything. SYMPATHY—It was a sad blow to the Laurence Paynes to lose their 15-year-old daughter as they did. They are deeply religious people, righteous and God fearing. They have the wholhearted sympathy of all the good people of Orange county in this, their tragic hour. Sympathy is not enough. The good people should see to it that something is done so that there will never be a repetition of such grief to any other family.
