Californian Wins Spot on 'Breakfast Club' Show
By TOM E. DANSON
HOLLYWOOD. — Peggy Taylor, a native of Pasadena and Alhambra, Calif., and active in Chicago radio and television since 1950, has been signed by ABC to a contract which calls for appearances on Don McNeil's "Breakfast Club" program. Patsy Lee, another Californian who left the program in May to be married in her home town of Oakland.
Born Margaret Mary Tague, the youngest of four daughters of Mrs. Charles L. Tague, 3004 Midwick drive, Alhambra, Peggy Taylor won the contract from an audition list of more than 200 girls. She was one of eight singers who have appeared in person recently in the popular McNeill program.
"We have selected Peggy Taylor," said McNeill, "because she best fits the qualifications needed for a singing sweetheart on our 'Breakfast Club.'" He added, "Just like the other seven girl vocalists in the 20-year history of the show. Peggy has youth, vivaciousness, good looks and the ability to sing and ad lib with the rest of us."
Comedian Sam Cowling's pointed remark when told of the selection was: "Wow! Wow!

Peggy attended grammar and high schools in Alhambra and received her A.B. degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1949. She taught one term at the Town and Country school in Pasadena before taking up singing as a career. Although she wanted to become an opera singer, Peggy was encouraged by Dorothy Shay ("The Park Avenue Hillbilly") to concentrate on popular music, and made her initial radio debut on a Pasadena radio station while still in high school. While attending the university, Peggy worked at the same radio station there, which sent Patsy Lee to the "Breakfast club."
