Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN E. NEUBAUER WEATHERWISE — Tolerable! Compared to the weather the rest of the nation's been having, Anaheim weather must be like that they have in paradise. The people, including Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Thomas of Buena Park, were in the water an hour before being picked up by a sportfishing boat... GOP-Democratic Clash Seen Over Central Valleys Project Ownership SACRAMENTO (CNS)—One of the major differences in the platforms of the Republicans and Democrats insofar as state issues are concerned is likely to be over ownership of California's huge Central Valleys project. Already, the Democratic sub-committee on water resources has recommended that federal ownership of the project be kept in status quo, until a long list of "ifs" are met. The Democratic sub-committee was headed by Assemblyman John E. Moss, of Sacramento, who is a candidate for Congress, and who has long opposed state ownership of CVP. The Republican platform sub-committee on water resources is considering a proposal to recommenDED that the state take over CVP, in line with the investigations made by the state division of water resources. Suggestions for planks in the Republican platform given a committee headed by Assemblyman Robert E. Kirkwood, of Santa Clara county, included state sovereignty, pensions, highways and public works, housing, civil defense, and others. The committee received a suggestion that it sponsor a direct national primary to do away with the national nominating conventions, but dropping the suggestion like a hot-cake when someone pointed out this was a DemocRATIC plank. Another suggestion included sponsorship of a free gold market. This was made by Assemblyman Francis Lindsey of the sixth district that the free market great demand to put the ind back on is feet. Supervisors Move To Eliminate Set-back Abuse Amendment of the county bing code to eliminate below-dard houses that are being or being moved into Orange city rural areas under the 2001 setback provision, is in proctomorrow when the county supervisors take up such a proposal. These builders and movers selling the buildings by ins ing private roads or streets necting with public highways. Buyers then petition the county take over the street. Despite the demand of ran ers in the past for privileges s vided under the 200 foot setb provision, county supervisors said to be leaning to the view that the setback should be elimi and standard building practic applied to all new constructio DEADLY — Summer heat brought additional traffic hazards to Oranco highways. COURTOPIX—Checks and narcotics seem to furnish Oranco criminal courts with most business this summer. Ten of the 18 defendants in court were on marijuana charges. BUSINESS—The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company's plan to split its classified advertising section into three separate sections caused protests. The first was launched by the Fullerton city council. Last week the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce objected to the plan. SPORTSWISE—Marvin (Ace) Burns of Fullerton played a vital part on the American waterpolo team's series of upsets at Helsinki ... Whittier (19-6), Long Beach (18-8), San Pedro (17-9) and Santa Ana (15-11) continue to dominate the National Nite-league play ... The Buena Park Lynx have been soaring since the Nutrilite company took over the financial end of the club. The women's softball team's suits have been embellished with a vitamin label ... Pat Ahern is laying the foundation for the annual Anaheim Junior Legion tourney. Pat O'Brien, the actor, will be the ARMSTRONG'S SANDWICH SHOP The committee received a suggestion that it sponsor a direct national primary to do away with the national nominating conventions, but dropping the suggestion like a hot-cake when someone pointed out this was a Democratic plank. Another suggestion included sponsorship of a free gold market. This was made by Assemblyman Francis Lindsay, of the sixth district, which includes most of the gold mining counties of the state. Lindsay told the people of his speaker at the kickoff dinner. TRANSITION—Life and death marked the Anaheim week statistically, with the stork doing far more business than usual. Ten births were recorded, three marriages and three deaths. There were several divorces... Mrs. Elida Castro, 21, a native Anaheimer, died... Death also claimed Daisy E. Gotder, 79, an Anaheimer for the last ten years... Mrs. Anna M. Teliska, died in the 33rd year of her life... Dolores Robinson became Mrs. Forest Drake... NITECCAPSULE — One of the most difficult things for youth to do is to profit by his elders' experience. MORE ABOUT McCracken (Continued from Page 1) law to provide that its provisions do not apply when defends are sentenced to death. The supreme court criticized only one phase of the McCracken prosecution. It did comment that District Attorney James Davis in his closing argument to the jury, made statements that were highly "improper" when sarcastically declared that Attorney Chula had invented McCracken's fantastic story of the talk dog and other statements tend to indicate he was insane. However, the evidence of McCracken's guilt was so overwhelming that Davis's statements were not so prejudicial to have caused a miscarriage of justice, the court stated. Real Estate Salesmen Increase SACRAMENTO (CNS) — Reflecting the huge population increase in California, about 5000 more real estate salesman licenses were issued in the 1951-52 fiscal year than in the previous year, D. D. Watson, state real estate commissioner, reported this week. A total of 33,780 salesman licenses were issued during the year. Total number of licenses of all types issued by the division was 98,361, highest on record, Watson said. Despite the over all increase, however, the number of real estate brokers licensed during the year decreased by about a thousand. Tightening of experience requirements for original licenses was given as the reason for the decrease. Total number of broker licenses issued during the fiscal year was 53,363, the commissioner said.
