Why wouldn't similar project help solve Anaheim's problem? ANECDOTE — Duane Winters Yanks Pass up Chance to Pick Up J. Lindell NEW YORK UP—Though the Yankees are somewhat short on pitching since Tom Morgan received his service call and Eddie Lopat developed the aches, they are reliably understood to have passed up a chance to acquire ANECDOTE — Duane Winters is the affable chap in charge of the Hunt Foods softball team which is playing the Anaheim Merchants for the Anaheim City league championship this week. He has more than his just share of troubles, even though his team has won 22 and lost five... The other night, after an extra inning ball game, Winters was a sad, forlorn individual. He was really dejected and he shouldn't have been... "I've lost my keys," he said, explaining his predicament. "I had them I know but where they could have gone is beyond my comprehension." He retracted his steps, looked under the players' bench and everywhere else... Finally, he found them—in his shoes... About a month ago, he "lost" $30. That was on a trip to Coolidge, Ariz., with the ball club. He was worried and actually lost sleep until he recalled that he had picked up the ball club's tab for steaks—$28 worth. Casey referred, of course, to his great comic-reading catcher, Yogi Berra. He plainly felt that a couple of broken fingers or a nervous breakdown for Yogi would far outweigh any possible dividends from Lindell's pitching.
