Gambling Money to Bolster Funds Of Fish and Game Commission SACRAMENTO (CNS) — A drive for a million dollars of horse racing pari-mutuel money was promised today by Thomas M. Erwin, Puente assemblyman and chairman of the assembly interim committee on fish and game. The funds will be sought, according to a report of the committee at the 1953 session, to avoid a new boost in the $3 fishing and hunting license fee. The Department of Fish and Game, under direction of Pennsylvania conservationist Seth Gor Anaheim Area Men On Reservists' Training Cruise Last Saturday, July 26, approximately 100 men from the Naval Reserve Training Center at Los Alamitos embarked on a 14 day training cruise aboard the USS Weeden, USS Butler, and USS Goss, enroute Seattle. The men and officers of Organized Surface Battalion 11-1 and Organized Surface Division 11-3 and 11-5 will be given a "Gala Welcome" in Seattle as that city celebrates its "Sea Fair Week." The three ships from Southern California will join others from San Francisco and will present a formidable task group as they steam northward to Seattle's busy port. While the rivillan sailors will be shown a grand time in Seattle, they will also undergo strenuous training to prepare them to man the ships of our fleet if and when needed. Rollan E. Glaskox Ends Army Course MUNICH, Germany — PFC Rollan E. Glaskox, of 146 E. Center st., Anaheim, Calif., recently graduated from the Seventh Army's Non-Commissioned Officers Academy at Munich. The six-week course emphasized the use of weapons, Army administration, tactics, supply, physical city celebrates its "Sea Fair Week." Teliska, 32, died Saturday at her home, 909 S. Lemon st., Anaheim. A native of New York, Mrs. Teliska had lived in Anaheim five years. Survivors include her husband, Steve J. Teliska, and three sons, Michael, Steve, jr., and Paul W., all of Anaheim; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Downey of New York; a sister, Mrs. Charlotte D. Reynolds. (CNS)—State division of forestry officials today reported that 116 forest fires in California during June burned out 1845 acres of watershed and pasture land, and 42 acres of timber. They said favorable weather in June enabled the division to make sizable reduction in fire hazards, by such action as burning off road sides and putting in fire breaks. Men and equipment have been working 24 hours a day, preparing for the fire season, the division reported. Employment Trend Reverses in Cal. SACRAMENTO. (CNS) — A rising trend in unemployment insurance claims throughout California was reversed during the week ending July 10 by a 16 per cent drop in new claims and a 5 per cent decrease in the total number of claims filed, department of employment officials reported today. The Santa Ana office received 132 new claims, 57 less than for the previous week. It received a total of 887 claims, and paid 636 claims. On a state-wide basis, 15,036 new claims and a total of 99,639 claims were filed. Claims paid numbered 74,406, three per cent fewer than were paid the previous week. Mrs. Daisy Golder Dies at Home Mrs. Daisy Golder, 79, a native of Missouri and resident of Anaheim 10 years, died at her home, 737 N. Clemente at Anaheim. Her husband had staged that robbery, aided by Alvin Edward Yoder, and the wives of both men, the FBI claims. The Yoders lived at Long Beach. Mrs. Pratt and the Yoders were said to have been linked to the Solano Beach robbery after fingerprints of Pratt, taken after his death in the Tustin bank robbery last month, identified him as participating in the Solano Beach robbery. Clues thus developed led to arrest of the others. Pratt staged the Tustin bank robber lone-handed, but was shot twice through the back of the head by G. O. Bixler, 32, assistant cashier of the bank, who seized a .30 calibre carbine and fired two shots after Pratt's fleeing car. Pratt had taken $2331 in the hold-up. If You Drink! Water Pollution Study Goes On SACRAMENTO (CNS) — The state water pollution control board is continuing to delve for facts in limiting ground - water pollution into California, Vinton W. Bacon, executive officer of the board, reported today. To the governor's council, Bacon reported the board will continue research at the University of Southern California on leaching salt and alkalies from incinerator ash, garbage and other types of surface dump. Research on the traveling of pollution with ground-water movement will be conducted at the University of California. The board has authorized contracts for special investigation of pollution problems during 1952-53. About 100, such investigations in 1951-52 were largely responsible for successful water pollution abatement during the period, Bacon claimed. The board receives analysis of water samples taken from over 100 points on more than 50 rivers and lakes throughout the state. The samples usually are studied for physical, chemical and bacteriological content, but this year they also will be analyzed for radioactivity, he added. the passage. Johnson of 6311 Stanton St., Buena Park, Calif., has been awarded the first clasp to the Good Conduct Medal while stationed with the 24th Infantry Division in Japan. The award was for exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity for three consecutive years of service. Sergeant Johnson joined the 63rd Field Artillery Battalion's Service Battery on April 11 of this year and is serving as a chief wheel vehicle mechanic. He has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Distinguished Unit emblem, Korean Service Ribbon with three campaign stars and the United Nations Service Ribbon in addition to the Good Conduct Medal with clasp. The clasp was awarded in lieu of a duplicate medal. The most consecutive games won at the beginning of a season by a major league team was 12 by the New York Giants in 1884.
