Sinking Padres 7 Games Out as Stars Pull Up
By The Associated Press
The San Diego Padres, deep in a big slump, have flopped from first place tie only 10 days ago to third, seven games behind the Pacific Coast league leading Hollywood Stars.
It was Hollywood that started San Diego tumbling. The Stars won seven games of their eight-game series in Hollywood. The Padres fled home, only to drop the first two games of their series to Portland.
The Beavers beat the Padres 5-3 last night.
Hollywood pulled two games in front of Oakland as the Oaks bowed to San Francisco, 9 to 5, while Hollywood was downing Sacramento 3 to 1. Seattle downed Los Angeles again, 6 to 5.
Bill Boemler, San Francisco pitcher, set the example for his club by slamming a third inning homerun. This sparked a 13-hit assault. Jim Moran and Joe Grace got three hits each and the Seals batted around in the seventh and scored five runs. Oakland catcher Ray Noble hit his fifth homer and first baseman Tookie Gilbert his 21st.
