Ike Will Start Week’s Vacation Near Fraser, Colo.
DENVER (UP)—Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower packed some knockabout clothes and his fishing gear for a week’s vacation starting today at a Rocky mountain ranch.
The Republican presidential nominee originally had planned to set out yesterday for the secluded spot about 70 miles west of here near Fraser, Colo.
He delayed his departure 24 hours so he and Mrs. Eisenhower could be on hand (3:45 p.m. EST) for a 30-minute stop-over of a plane carrying their son, Maj. John D. Eisenhower, to Seattle. The major will leave there later this week for duty in Korea.
The general’s only companion during a week of trout fishing at Fraser will be his long-time friend Aksell Nielsen, Denver insurance man who owns the ranch.
Mrs. Eisenhower will remain at the home of her mother, Mrs. John S. Doud, who lives in Denver.
Eisenhower’s political staff, headquartered at the Brown Palace hotel, also will remain in Denver.
A five-car caravan of newsmen will accompany the general to the Nelsen ranch and remain until evening. They won’t stay on there because of lack of accommodations.

not struck. A piece of metal from the plane sliced through the wall of her kitchen and protruded from the inside.
Stedman and his wife, Rene, bookkeeper for the Santa Ana Businessmen’s association, were both away from home at the time as were Mr. and Mrs. Graham.
It was reported that the ill-fated pilot was flying with an instructor who was in an accompanying plane at the time of the practice dive. One theory said of naval officers is that the air pressure system in the plane failed to function and the pilot blacked out for a time while diving at such speed.
Estes Kefauver He Hopes Will W
CHICAGO (UP)—Front-runner Estes Kefauver today disclosed the strategy he hopes will keep him ahead in the wide-open race for the Democratic president nomination.
The tall Senator from Tennessee outlined a simple plan—the same one he has used successfully in presidential primaries:
Meet as many people as possible, be as accessible as possible.
Therefore, he said in an announcement through his press headquarters, he will be available twice daily so that newsmen can ask questions.
Mrs. Kefauver also planned news conference today.
Escalator Wage Clauses Affect 200,000 Workers
SACRAMENTO. (CNS)—More than 200,000 Californians who work under union contracts now have their wages adjusted automatically to changes in the cost of living, Paul Scharrenberg, state director of industrial relations, announced today.
One third of these workers affected by cost of living escalators are employed by railroads, Scharrenberg said, and one fourth are in the greatly expanded aircraft industry.
At least 90,000 Californian wage earners have come under the terms of newly negotiated escalator clauses since July 1951, according to the director.
Wages of union workers are tied by contract to the consumers' price index of the U.S. bureau of labor statistics, Scharrenberg explained. Railroad workers receive a one cent wage adjustment for each one point change in the index.
Many aircraft and automobile manufacturing companies have written in their contracts the General Motors type formula, which calls for wage changes of a cent an hour for each 1.14 points change in the index.
A smaller number of workers are covered by contracts calling for straight adjustment in wages.
It was reported that the ill-fated pilot was flying with an instructor who was in an accompanying plane at the time of the practice dive. One theory said of naval officers is that the air pressure system in the plane failed to function and the pilot blacked out for a time while diving at such speed.
Coroner Earl Abbey said no inquest will be conducted since naval authorities are handling the case.
Viking Purchases Anaheim Furniture Company Plant
Viking Trailer Corp. of Anaheim was the high bidder yesterday when the factory and contents of the Anaheim Furniture Co. at Juilama and Paulina sts. was auctioned off. Price paid for the 15,000 square foot building was $34,500.
D. J. Caruthers, president of Viking, said another division of the firm will be installed in the plant to make Viking trailers under the same name. Viking has three other plants: the parent establishment at Ball road and Manchester ave., the Skorpion sports car shop at 113 S. Palm st., Anaheim, and a trailer plant in Compton.
Included with the three-year rates equal to the percentage change in the price index, he added.
AND INSTEAD of showing any worry about rival Democrats, he lit right into Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Republican nominee.
"Eisenhower looks weaker and weaker as time goes on," Kefauver said.
"On domestic issues, Genera Eisenhower has not shown any awareness of the problems. He should be a very easy candidate to beat."
Kefauver also outlined his views on his own campaign.
On his own strength:
Some 300 votes on the first ballot, with Kefauver the winner on the fifth or sixth ballot.
On the question of whether he will run into opposition from big city leaders who resented the old frame structure is an acre and a half of land.
The new Viking division plant is the one that was threatened by a grass fire early this month, but remained virtually undamaged.

June Cal-Vet Loans -Pass $5 Million
SACRAMENTO. (CNS)—State investment in farms and homes for California veterans rose in June for the third consecutive month, with a total of $3,186,000 advanced to 660 veterans under the "Cal-Vet" farm and home purchase program, D. J. Callaghan, Jr., state director of veterans affairs, reported today.
He said June volume of low interest financing was $475,000 above the volume for May, and $894,000-over the amount invested in veterans' properties last April.
According to the report, 612 existing horses were financed for state veterans, along with five farms and 43 homes being built.
The month's Cal-Vet financing boosted to more than 57,000 the number of veterans who have used their-state benefits to purchase farms and home, Callaghan said.

Senate crime investigations conducted by Kefauver:
"I'd be less than frank if I didn't say there was some aggravation among Democrats in these cities over our crime investigations. There is among Republicans, too; Philadelphia, for example."

'You Think You’re Going to a ... Gulp'
Said the Policeman
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (P)—Here are the bare facts:
Deputy Sheriff Arthur Willis halted a car for speeding yesterday morning. In it sat four women naked from the waist up.
As the quartet donned brassieres, the driver said to Willis: "Well, men drive bare-chested, don’t they?"
Wrote Willis, in a postscript to his report:
"By the way, I forgot to ticket them for speeding."
Stanton Civic Leader Resigns
The directors of the Stanton chamber of commerce met Tuesday night at the office of the president, Carbon C. Dubbs, on Western and Katella, and were disappointed to learn that one of their most diligent board members, Moreland, William Schuman, is resigning.
Schuman who has been manager of the Long Beach branch of the Los Angeles county hospital and his wife, Ella, superintendent of nurses, have been transferred to Lancaster for the next nine months.
The Schumans are building an industrial plant on Chestnut st. and Monroe to manufacture their own food product called “Propeans” from the Mexican pea. They plan on using local workers when the plant is completed.
Both the Shumans have worked many hours campaigning for the local fire station that is rapidly nearing completion, with temporary headquarters on the north side of Main st., between highway 39 and Flower st.
HELSINKI—A record number of more than 8,000 athletes are competing in the Olympic games here, according to the international Olympic committee president, J. Sigfrid Edstrom.
