Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, JULY 17, 1952 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities Pat Terrebonne — 2206 Costume Day Prize Awards At City Park Costume day, under the auspices of the recreation department was held in the sunshine of the city park Greek theater with many mothers looking on. Winning prizes for owning the most beautiful foreign costume was Pam Steele, 4½, who represented a Japanese maiden; second prize went to Donna Shelly, a Hawaiian costume; and third place winner was Cathy Shea, 9, a gypsy costume. Costumes from nursery rhymes were worn by Nadine Shelly, first prize, in a bo-peep costume; Carol Robertson, second, in a spirit of summer costume and Fransien Swint, third. Honorable mention was won by Emma Robertson. Winning prizes in the commercial costume division were: Virginia and Roy Maybee, first; second, Cathy Steele; Jimmy and Janet Thill, third; and Susan Dolan, fourth. Hardluck costumes were worn by Pat and Dian Ostdick first place winners, and Art and Margaret Kirker second place winners. A ribbon was won by Sandra Erickson for following the theme the best in the early American New Residents Honored at Tea Newcomers to Anaheim were welcomed at another of the delightful hospitality teas sponsored by the Merchant's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, represented by Mrs. Martha Schumacher. Chairmen for the tea were Mrs. Leo Martin, Miss Mary Jean Lambert, Mrs. Stanley Zinda, Mrs. Opal Rimpau, Miss Anne Treanor and Mrs. L. A. Benner. The affair was held at the Dorothy-Wade restaurant and refreshments of cream pie, coffee and tea were furnished by the dinner house. The lovely corsages for each guest, and the committee in charge, were donated by the Chapel Florist, 101 Highway at Manchester. Each guest received a favor from the S.Q.R. Store, Weber's Book Store, Iona Cooper, representative of the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, Mercury Stationers, the Anaheim Telephone Company and the Chamber of Commerce. The pearl necklace won by Mrs. W. B. Cutler, 614 S. Citron st., was donated by Hubert's Jewelry Store, and the scarf won by Miss Mary Ann Launer, 324½ E. Broad- Typing Refresher Course Offered Intensive refresher training in tying will be conducted in two two-weeks course starting July 21 at the Fullerton junior college summer session. The class will meet for two hours from 8 to 10 am with Don Brunskill as instructor. This is an opportunity for those who have had typing before to build accuracy and speed in order to qualify for employment, Brunskill stated. There will be no charge for the course except for materials used. Registration for the typing course will be made at the first meeting of the group July 21. The class will meet in room 322, business education building, Fullerton junior college campus. Mariners Hold Family Night Picnic Dinner Mariners club of the Presbyterian church held a family night pot luck dinner at La Palma park last evening with Mr. and Mrs. George Tatlock as chefs. Sycamore st., Stanton, are visiting in Kansas. He is on vacation from the Stanton House Movers in Buena Park. Mrs. Charles Moore of 7232 Monroe st., is back from her annual sojourn to Hawaii. She spent two weeks at the Edgewater hotel relaxing and visiting the various dance studios to learn new routines to use in her school the coming season. Canada produces $15,000,000 worth of furs a year. Population of Uruguay is about 2,353,000. Sorority Meets To Elect Officers Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae met this week at the home of Mrs. Paul Baker in Brea for convention reports and installation of officers. Mrs. Ted Rischard of Santa Ana was elected president, Miss Gertrude Frost, Laguna, vice president; Mrs. Charles Simmons of Anaheim, secretary, and Mrs. Page Cavanaugh of Orange, treasurer. Talks were given on the national convention, held at the Huntington hotel in Pasadena, with Miss Helen Harrison elected national president.
