Junior All-Stars Slide Past Brea In League Tilt
The Roaring Rainbows, the Junior All-Star squad, won their first softball game today at the City park, 2 to 1 over visiting Buena Park. The Rainbows travel to Garden Grove on Thursday for their second game.
In the fourth inning, Gary Thornton scored the winning run after he had walked to lead off the inning with a single by Gary Dixon, and a fielder choice at home plate, but Thornton slide under with what proved to be the winning run.
Anaheim had scored one run in the bottom of the first on a walk, stolen base, an error and a single by Billy Larson. Two other times the Rainbows had the bases loaded but were unable to score.
Buena Park scored their run in the top of the second on an error, two walks and a single. In two other innings they threatened, but spectacular fielding cut down extra runs:

Juniors Topple Santa Ana, 5-4

BRAND LEADS
PEBBLE BEACH (2) — Elizabeth Brand of Sacramnto held a two strike lead as the annual California women's 54 hole amateur golf derby went into its second round today.
FISHING NOTES
By AL BACORE
It would be like telling a Halloween ghost story on Christmas eve, to talk about anything but albacore this week. May 24, we had the thrill of the first albacore to be caught this year. June 18 Fred Wayre brought the first albacore into Newport harbor and just last Friday came the news that we can now all "get into the act." Friday morning the St. Louis Junior, out of Port Orange, first radioed the news "albacore aboard." The Joy of Seasport-Port Lido was the first sport-fishing boat into the harbor to prove that the long fins were no rumor this time. Skipper Jack McElwain had 16 aboard. The Valencia III, of Norm's landing brought in the most "albies" that day. They loaded 27 of the prize catches aboard.
Saturday practically every boat from the Derby landings went out after long fins, and they proved that the first big schools were really in. Balboa pavilion boats hit 100 per cent. One boat from Newport pier reported 51 landed. Three boats from Kimball's 19th street landing brought in a total of 110. Norm's landing and Port Orange reported a total of 751 albacore. The catch for the day from the Derby landings was 1,172 "chicken of the sea!"
Over the weekend the total rose.
Dick Hanson and Mary Flynn won a long three set match against Joanne Kellogg and Floyd Baker 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, last night and right to represent the Anahee Recreation department in the National Junior Public Parks Tournis championships at Long Beach from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9.
All four of the finalists will entered in the singles division because of previous wins, with Miss Flynn and Miss Kellogg teaming in the girls doubles, at Baker and Hanson, who are the current Sunset League double champions, also teaming in the boys doubles.
Miss Flynn and Hanson had advanced to the finals of the mixed doubles with a first round bye, quarter-final win over Judy Lamori and Larry Harvill, 7-6-1, and a semi-final victory over Judy Debevec and Dan Holde 6-2, 6-1. In the third set of the finals against Miss Kellogg and Baker, they were down three games to love before hitting their stride and taking the set at 8-4.
IN THE GIRLS doubles of the same tournament the 13-year-old team of Rita Flynn and Jean Williams dropped a close and well played match to Judy Lamori and Judy Debevec 6-4, 6-4, Miss Debevec and Miss Lamori are slated to play the winner of the match tomorrow which will see Karen Lenain and Anne Williams opposing Alice Weaver and Dora

In the first game Kwikset went out in front in the first inning on hits by Manuel Losoya, Carter Roundtree and Lou Boozell to drive across three runs in the persons of Larry Noggle, Chuck Meachum and Losoya. LOCAL Jr. TENIS TEAM TRAVELS TO ARCADIA Tomorrow
Anaheim's Junior Boys tennis team travels to ArCADia tomorrow evening for a six p.m. match against the Arcadia I team in the regular Thursday evening schedule free for three and Manuel Losoya with two fer four. Big hitters for P&L were Al Bushman who also pitched, with three for four and Duane Rowland with two for three.
THE SECOND GAME of the evening proved to be nothing more than a hitters' paradise for the Robertshaw team as they massed together 16 hits including three homeruns, one triple and seven doubles. The final score was Robertshaw 27, Knotts 5.
Robertshaw scored in every inning but the sixth when they were just too tired to even try to hit the ball. The big innings for Robertshaw were the third and fourth when six runs scored and the fifth when seven runs crossed the plate.
Ray Huston, hustling third sacker for Robertshaw, and their candidate for "most valuable player" in the league, had a big night in hitting two homeruns and three doubles. Ray also scored six times, once after walking. Other big stickman for Robertshaw was Cliff Horton, who poled the longest homerun of the year in Industrial league play. Cliff, as a matter of fact, hit for the circuit in getting a single, double and a triple.
John Lewis and pitcher Barney Swearingen each banged out three hits to ride along with top hitters of the night.
All of the Knott's runs came in the fourth inning on five hits and five runs. Doubles by John Wright and Duane Duncan, plus singles by Russell Mackey, Jay Proctor and Elmer Carmicheal accounts for all of the Berrymen runs. Leading hitters and Duane Duncan each with two hits in four trips to the plate.

core flag lying in the breeze, but not many. Some fellows came off the day boats, charter boats and albacore specials with empty gunny sacks and long faces. But there were a lot more with big grins on their faces... long fins in their sacks. The way I figure it, one fellow's chances are as good as another's, so pardon me while I get the sign for the office door. The one that says... "Gone fishin'!"
Bill Glynns Goes Up to Cleveland
SACRAMENTO. (P) — B.111 Glynn, first baseman and leading hitter of the Sacramento Solons, has been sold to the Cleveland Indians.
He will leave the Pacific Coast league and fly east immediately to join the American league competition.
In return, the Solons will get an unspecified amount of cash, Cleveland outfielder Dino Restelli and a new first baseman, Ben Taylor of the Detroit Tigers.
Olympics Eliminate Basketball Terms
HELSINKI (P) — Olympic basketball official scorers have decided to go completely modern. All identifying positions — forwards, center and guards — have been eliminated from the lineups.
The way basketball is played, with the center jump eliminated after each basket, and the entire team going down court on the attack, the old distinctions have disappeared. Americans, however, still use the identifications, but Europeans have decided they are meaningless.
Three California harness horses were recently exported to Japan. They were the first to go there from the U.S. since 1931.

Walt Dropos Ties Major Hitting Record with 12 Consecutive Hits
By RALPH RODEN
Associated Press Sports Writer
Walt Dropo, the amiable "moose" from Mooseup, Conn., once again is striking fear into the hearts of American League pitchers.
Dropo, who has experienced more ups and downs than a roller coaster in his bid for major league stardom, has been the hottest batter in the league since Independence day.
The husky first baseman of the Detroit Tigers shunted the pennant races to the sidelines last night by tying a rare major league record—12 consecutive hits. Pinky Higgins set the record in 1938 with the Boston Red Sox and Dropo is the first to equal the mark.
Dropo failed to break the record when he fouled out in the seventh inning of the second game of a twi-night doubleheader against the Senators in Washington. The 28-year-old slugger then singled home two runs in the ninth.
Doubleheader Looms Between Stars and Padres
By The Associated Press
A crucial doubleheader tonight between the San Diego Padres and the Hollywood Stars may loosen the knot at the top of the Pacific Coast league.
The Padres and the Stars are only a meager two percentage points behind league leading Oakland. The Oaks also will be doubleheading with Seattle, a far less formidable foe than either San Diego anyd Hollywood.
If performances the past week are indicative it seems a safe bet to look for a split when the Padres again tangle with the Stars.
Until last night, the Padres had piled up a six game winning streak. Pitcher Paul Pettit, the

Dropo failed to break the record when he fouled out in the seventh inning of the second game of a twi-night doubleheader against the Senatots in Washington. The 28-year-old slugger then singled home two runs in the ninth.
DESPIITE DROPO's lusty hitting the tall-end Tigers dropped both ends of the twin-bill to Washington, 8-2, and 9-8.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians slashed the Yanks' lead to 2½ games by downing the bombers, 7-3, at the Yankee stadium. The Red Sox took over third place from Chicago by beating the White Sox, 7-5 and the Philadelphia Athletics swept a twi-night twin-bill from St. Louis, '7-6 and 11-3.
In the National League, the second place New York Giants climbed to within five games of Brooklyn's pace-setting Dodgers by turning back the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3. The Dodgers' game with Cincinnati was rained out. In other games, the Philadelphia Phillies trounced Pittsburgh, 10-3, and the Boston Braves snowed under the Chicago Cubs, 10-3, in the majors' only day game.
Bob Feller of the Cleveland Indians holds a lifetime edge over every American league club except the Yankees. He's beaten them 28 times, lost 33.
