Excavation Started on $250,000 Telephone Company Building Annex Excavation work has started on a new quarter-million-dollar addition to The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company's central office building at 217 N. Lemon st., Manager Robert J. Rossberg announced this week. Completion of the one-story and basement addition is scheduled early next year. Rossberg said the reinforced masonry structure will provide an additional 10,700 square feet of floor space to the central office building, making a total of more than 34,000 square feet for the installation of switching equipment to care for future telephone requirements. The new building addition being constructed on the west side of the present building built in 1930, will measure approximately 53 by 97 feet. Commenting on results of the company's accelerated expansion program here, the manager said there are certainly 8,200 telephones in the Anaheim exchange, compared with 2,000 in 1925, and 3,400 in 1945, an increase of 140 per cent in the past seven years. Despite this large gain, there are still about 400 applicants waiting for service. Air Force C-47 With 7 Aboard Reported Lost MARCH AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (P)—An Air Force C-47 transport plane with seven men aboard was missing today on a 35-minutes flight from Norton Air Force base to Van Nuys, Calif., March Air Force base reported. The aircraft took off at 6:47 (PDT) last night and has not been heard from since. Aboard were three crewmen and four passengers, presumably Air Force personnel, on a routine mission. $180,000 IN PRIZES POMONA (P)—The Los Angeles County Fair will pay out a total of $180,000 in prize money next Sept. 12-28, President-Manager C.
