Hostesses Welcomed Anaheim with Literature
Hello, new neighbors—welcome to Anaheim!
That greeting and the ensuing chat with a smiling pleasant caller who carries on her arm is "welcome basket" has made settling in Anaheim an enjoyable experience for new residents of this city since the inauguration of the Anaheim Hostess Service the first of April.
Calling at the home of the new comer, the hostess presents each new neighbor with a basket of gifts from the civic-minded men chants who are sponsoring the hostess service here. The basket also contains a variety of civic information and a booklet explaining the various departments within the City Hall, a message from the Police Department, the Orange County Health Department, the Department of Motor Vehicles, the adult education division of the city schools and various other civic groups and organizations. Highlight of the "welcome basket" is that everything in it is free.
The Hostess service reports to the Anaheim ministers, the names of newcomers of various faiths so that they may call and invite them to their church. The various organizations within the city are also notified when they have a member who has moved in to Anaheim in the hope that they united efforts will help to integrate these new residents into the life of this community.
With the start of the Anaheim Hostess service, Anaheim joins the ranks of other Southern California cities with similar services headed by Pasadena which has a continuous 24 year record.
It is believed that coffee was first grown and widely used as a beverage in Arabia.
