VOTE RIGHT VOTE McFADDEN FOR SUPERVISOR Wm. Phillips, Treasurer MORE ABOUT... Primaries (Continue from Page 1) In the area and their experience on the bench is about equal. This one is seen in many quarters as having the undertones of a "popularity" contest. Mr. Shea resides in Anaheim while Mr. Verry is from Fullerton. Orange county Republicans are expected to support the Governor Warren slate of convention delegates, while the delegates pledged to Senator Kefauver are seen as winning in the Democratic primary. Over the years, Orange county Republicans have demonstrated their loyalty to their "favorite son," while Mr. Kefauver's campaign trip to Orange county and his speech at Santa Ana are believed to have put him across as far as the county Democrats are concerned. Both presidential candidates are facing so-called "unpledged" delegations to the national conventions. Senator William F. Knowland is expected to get the big vote in the race for U. S. senator. THE RACE FOR the Assembly seat for the 75th district is a three-way affair involving Glen McCloud, LeRoy Lyon Jr., and Frank Rospaw. Because Mr. Lyon is still in the Navy and has featured his service in Naval Intelligence, a great deal of campaign emphasis has been placed on military service, which has, in some degree, obscured the candidates' legislative platforms. Mr. McCloud and Mr. Lyon have of California which shows a majority of Republican voters. In the state there are 2,905,860 registered Democrats and 2,192,208 Republicans. MORE ABOUT... County Clerk (Continued on Page 4) presidential delegates favoring Governor Earl Warren and Congressman Thomas Werdel developed vigorous campaigning. The members of the rival slates from the 28th Congressional district are both residents of Orange—Attorney Gordon X. Richmond on the Warren slate and Senator Clyde A. Watson on the Werdel slate, THREE CANDIDATES for the U.S. Senate seek easy nomination. Senator W. Kowland, Republican, gressman Clinton D. M Democrat, are on both plots. Robert Adams, re- man, is the third R candidate, Arthur Watteng the third Democrat. In the new 28th Con- district six candidates be its first representation are from Orange coun- tion of the district. All six them Republicans, have ed, James B. Utt and D rell, both of Santa Ana, Judge Frank Linnell of Beach, are the Orange co tries. Oscar Knappe of John Steiger of Ocean seat for the 75th district is a three-way affair involving Glen McCloud, LeRoy Lyon Jr., and Frank Rospaw. Because Mr. Lyon is still in the Navy and has featured his service in Naval Intelligence, a great deal of campaign emphasis has been placed on military service, which has, in some degree, obscured the candidates' legislative platforms. Mr. McCloud and Mr. Lyon have put on the strongest campaigns and the race is viewed as a showdown between the pair, although Mr. Rospaw has his adherents, particularly in the Placentia area, where he is a publisher. Not too much heat, or light, has been generated locally in the election of a candidate for the 28th District in the House of Representatives in Washington, because none of the candidates is strictly "local" with the voters in Anaheim. Oscar Knappe, Republican, and Lionel Van Deerlin, Democrat, are from Escondido; James B. Utt and David Farrell, GOPs, are from Santa Ana; Republican Frank Linnell is from Newport Beach, and John A. Stieger, Republican, is from Oceanside. POLITICAL observers are watching the Congressional race to detect any significant trends which may develop in the pattern of voting in the new district, which geographically is dominated by Orange county. Normally, selection by the county's Republican voters in the primary is tantamount to victory in the general election in the fall. Observers are interested in whether the gradual industrialization of Orange county and the inclusion of residential areas near San Diego in the 28th district will have any effect on the Congressional election trends. About 7300 voters, predominantly Republican, are registered in Anaheim. In Orange county there are 58,452 Republican and 49,986 Democratic voters. The county is one of three counties in the state "I am running for time has come with their services to fight in government." "Since the beginnere repeatedly that the and the State of restoration of conthe people in them resent them in pubto honesty, important issue in" "My wish is to hoethe people of OranI am not obligatedinterests." Senator William F. Kowland, Republican, and Congressman Clinton D. McKinnon, Democrat, are on both party ballots. Robert Adams, real estate man, is the third Republican candidate, Arthur Watwood being the third Democrat candidate. In the new 28th Congressional district six candidates want to be its first representative. Three are from Orange county, three from the San Diego county portion of the district. All six, five of them Republicans, have cross-filled. James B. Utt and David Farrell, both of Santa Ana, and City Judge Frank Linnell of Newport Beach, are the Orange county entries. Oscar Knappe of Escondido, John Steiger of Oceanside, and Lionel Van Deerlin, Jone Democrat, from Poway, are the candidates below the county border. Assembly Speaker Sam L. Collins of Fullerton and Rancher John A. Murdy, Jr., of Huntington Beach, have waged a hot campaign for the State Senate seat vacated by Senator Clyde A. Watson of Orange, the contest climaxed in the final week by Collins's threat to sue Murdy for slander. FOUR CANDIDATES seek Speaker Collins' vacant assembly seat in the 75th district. Glen McCloud of Anaheim, LeRoy Lyon, Jr., naval reservist, of Fullerton; Publisher Frank Rospaw, Placeia, all Republicans, and Richard White, Westminster contractor, Democrat, all have cross filled. The one supervisorial contest that in the Third district finds Supervisor Ralph McFadden, Placeia, opposed for his second term by William Edward Paulker, young West Anaheim businessman and farmer. The campaign has been hot and heavy in that contest too. Five judicial contests are on the primary ballot in the county as the result of the lower court reorganization approved two years ago, which establishes two municipal court districts and three justice court districts in Orange county, to supplant the 11 justice courts and 18 city courts now existing. The change-over takes place Jan. 1. If You Drink! Don't Drive Candidate for State Senator JOHN A. MURDY Says.... am running for public office because I think the ne has come when good Americans should offer ir services to fight for what is sound, right and just government." once the beginning of this campaign, I have said repeatedly that the important issue facing the Nation and the State of California in this election year was retention of confidence in the hearts and minds of people in their government and in those who repent them in public office. We must have a return honesty, integrity and morality. That is still the important issue in this campaign." my wish is to honestly and sincerely represent all the people of Orange County to the best of my ability. I am not obligated to any individual, group or special interests." My wish is to honestly and sincerely represent all the people of Orange County to the best of my ability. I am not obligated to any individual, group or special interests." I have fought a clean, hard fight for things we know are right in government. We face the verdict at the polls tomorrow with great confidence that the right cause will win, deeply grateful for fine, courageous support which has come to us from every corner of the county. I am placing my trust in the judgment of the citizens of Orange County. Tomorrow! TO SEND JOHN A. MURDY TO THE STATE SENATE John A. Murdy fort Sato Senate Committee Campaign Headquarters 204 W.
