Anaheim Gazette TUESDAY, MAY 27, 1952 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities Pat Terrebonne — 2206 Altrusa Installation of Officers Conducted at Dinner Meeting Marian Anderson was formally installed last night as president of Anaheim Altrusa club in ceremonies conducted by Carrie Lou Sutherland. Serving with her are first vice president, Helen Mitchell; second vice, Marguerite Coons; recording secretary, Jackie Clemmer; corresponding secretary, Agnes Criss; treasurer, Vernice Hill; parliamentarian, Edith Holsinger; directors, Dorothy Dickenson, Carrie Lou Sutherland, Alice Sowder, Helen Kaulbars and Pearl Wagoner. Initiation of two new members, Marie Rouquet and Shirley Dougan, was conducted by Anne Clodt and Edith Holsinger. Lillian Rogers presented Mrs. Anderson with the president's pin and Mrs. Wagoner was given the past president's pin by Mrs. Sutherland. During the business meeting, the June 9 meeting was cancelled and a June 23 work shop planned at the Anderson home in La Habra Heights. Speaker of the evening was Mayme Krythe, writer and traveler and a former member of the Woodrow Wilson High school faculty who presented an entertaining talk. Corps Members To Make Floral Tributes Thursday A. B. Paul Women's Relief Corps members are urged to be at City park Thursday and to bring scissors, twine and flowers for making Memorial Day cemetery bouquets. Seven members of the local corps attended Whittier Federation meeting presided over by Elloene Auffenkamp, president, of Laguna Beach. Greetings were extended by the chairman of Whittier Chamber of Commerce. Present for the session were delegations from Laguna, Bellflower, Santa Ana, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove and Westminster. An interesting talk was presented by the new department president, Ruth Johnson. Leona Hull, president of Anaheim corps, was conductress. Others present from this city were Mary Hatfield, Mary Fordyce, Emma Yale, Alice Robert and Mary Mitchell. Total attendance was 125. Dinner preceded the meeting. Fullerton Notes Climaxing the three days of Blue and Gold activities at Fullerton Junior college, was the Blue and Gold dance. The all-school dance was held in the Patio which was appropriately decorated with magnolias to correspond to the theme of Magnolia Moods. Bob Brownfield and his orchestra, featuring Emmo Lou Welch as vocalist, played for the dance. Highlight of the evening was the crowning of the Blue and Gold royalty. Blue and Gold Princess Carol New carrying a spray of gardenias was escorted down the spotlighted aisle by student body president, Phil Whitner. Prince Gale Conner was escorted by social chairman Betty Jones. The Prince and Princesses were presented with trophies. The Regional Speak Off of the Toastmistress' Clubs of Southern California was held Saturday, May 24. The Speak Off was held during a dinner meeting at the Huntington Hotel in Pasadena. Miss Joyce Wilson attended as the Fullerton club representative and Francis Lewis as her alternate. Also attending from Fullerton were Mrs. Reid Corbett, Edith Pierce, Jan Kohlenberger, and Mrs. Bob Miller of Buena Park. Simms announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Betty Joyce, to Raymond E. Robey. The engaged pair will wed June 13, in Seattle. Betty Joyce was graduated from Anaheim Union High school and is employed by the Port of Embarkation in Seattle. Her fiance has completed five years army service and at present is employed by the Boeing Aircraft of Seattle. They plan to make their home in Seattle. Betty's address is 1000 6th ave., No. 338, Seattle, Wash. Cub Pack 102 Awards Given The Anaheim Elks sponsored Cubs, Pack 102, held its regular monthly meeting at the Horace Mann school auditorium Friday night. Cubs who had earned badges and arrow points were rewarded by being presented with the awards. Salvador Herrera was given a Wolf badge and a gold and silver arrow points. Will Copeland and Tommy Raymond received Bear badges and Leo Leonard, a Lion badge. Copeland also received a gold arrow point. Gold and Silver arrow points were given to Bobby Shroeder, Glen Mott, Michael Cronin, and Dennis Carlson. Carl Nelson a Gold point. Silver arrow points were awarded to Ricky and Eddie Schefler, Bob Jeter, George Leper, Mike Coffman, and Lynn Wayne Ference. Denner stripes to Hank Harvey, Steve Squires, Ricky Schefler and Billy Ballman. Traditional Europe In Marriage Service Miss Angele Sidoine Merlica Cypress was united in marriage Saturday morning with Fr. Sallaberry of Artesia, in nuppe performed by Father Pat Pierse at St. Boniface Catholic church. Following traditional Europe custom, the bride having educated in Belgium and bridegroom in France, Frank laberry called on the bride, lying the bridal bouquet, and parted for the church with bride's mother, Mrs. Clara Norgaele and her sister in the car. The bride and her sister, Leona Merlier, who served bridesmaid, followed in the car. Victor Logier, uncle, gave bride away and Martin Chiphet netche from Artesia attended bridegroom. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sallaberry of France, the bride's parents, were not able attend the ceremony. The bride carried white cations and a white orchid which wore on her two piece touring outfit later. The bride of honor wore a blue gown pink carnations and the bride mother a navy suit with lace orchid, corsage. As the couple left the chapel as is the custom of their court the men stood together on right and the women on the left and tossed flowers to the chapel. A reception followed at De San Antonio. Among the guests were 60 employees of Boss Overall Cleaners where bride has been in charge of store since coming here from gium three years ago. A family dinner was given Mrs. Nachtergaele that even at Marcel's in Montebello. The couple will be at hon 8812 Cypress ave., Cypress, a two week honeymoon in Francisco. Oklahoma Highlights Play At Knott's "A good show never dies," to paraphrase a famous saying. "Oklahoma Highlights," this year's traveling roadshow by Fullerton Junior college students, seems to prove the lingering popularity of a well-done production. The show will be presented again at Knott's Berry Farm for an evening performance in the bowl there on Wednesday, May 28, 1952, at 8:30 p.m. This event is free to the public. Awards of Merit Given to VFW Auxiliary Members National Veterans Administration presented awards of merit to VFW Auxiliary members who have served for 100 or more hours as volunteer workers at Long Beach Naval Hospital, when the organization met recently. Honored were Irene Stitchman, Helen Maas, Elmo Richards, Vignon Gamble and Elizabeth Aldrich. Guest at the meeting last night was RFrieda Grimes from Illinois, who is transferring membership to the local club. Charles Bucky, Naval Base, Terminal Island, won the hand knit shawl made and donated to the Auxiliary by Alva Gage. Emma David, sewing chairman, called a meeting at her home, 822 N. Helena st., for June 4, with a noon pot-luck. April and May birthday honores were seated at a decorated table and presented with gifts.
