Teams Go into Over-Time As Hunts and Parkway Win Games In as thrilling a double header as anyone could ask for, last night at City park, Hunt Foods defeated Davies Bakery 1 to 0 in a second game, eight inning thriller. In the opener, the Parkway Inn nine was forced to play nine innings before winning over the hustling Anaheim-Fullerton Cyclone team, 2-0. Hunt Foods gained its victory in the bottom half of the eighth inning when Ed Heintz tripled down the first base line with two away. Knox Boyd, Hunt's catcher, hit a scorer to third, which Del Margens knocked down but was late on the throw to first, Heinz scoring on the play. Ed Farr, Hunt Foods brilliant hurler notched his second straight victory as he allowed three hits, one walk and nine strike outs. Art Altheide continued to pitch brilliant ball when he kayoed 11 men, six hits, no walks. Two of the hits coming in the eighth, with two outs. Horace Mann Beats Jefferson Horace Mann whipped Thomas Jefferson 17-14 yesterday on the loser's diamond. The Horace Mann attack was led by the Miranda brothers, with Rudy getting two home runs, and Albert getting a home run and a double. Horace Mann scored five runs in the first inning, only to have Jefferson come right back and tie the score in their half of the inning. Mann scored eight more in the second inning, and was never pressed from there on out. The most runs Jefferson could manage in the second inning was six. Horace Mann scored four more in the third and final inning, and it was just too much to overcome by the boys from Jefferson. They scored three runs in their half of the inning. Orange county track and field fans will find the cream of Southland prep thinclads in its "own back yard" tomorrow as finalists in the 1952 CIF Southern Section Track and Field competition meet on the Huntington Beach high school track. Anaheim's Larry Kirchman, after again not being forced to compete against his ace rival, Landon Carter of Orange high, in preliminary or semi-final 440s, must renew the duel tomorrow. In their first and only meeting of the season in Sunset League finals, Carter too his measure handily in a record breaking 49 flat one lapper. Kirchman was caught in 50.2. Both men have posted faster times than the marks for this meet, however, Carter shattering the mark with a 48.9 in CIF preliminary competition two weeks ago at San Diego State. Kirchman has won all his qualifying heats, but has failed to better the 50.2 mark in post season races. His best mark remains an unofficial one lapper run in a relay race at El Monte held early this season where he was clocked variously at times ranging from 49.1 to 48.7. Only other meetings of the two speedsters came in league 100 yard dashes, where Kirchman won the first; the second ended in a dead heat. Last year Kirchman and Carter both went to the state finals and the Anaheim runner was barely edged out of the state championship, while Carter placed fifth. First three place men in each event will go on to the state track finals in the Coliseum next Saturday. The 440, adjudged a two-man contest all season between Kirchman and Carter, took on a triangular aspect during the past week as Don White of Pasadena chased Carter home in 50.2 in CIF prelims at Chaffey last week. All indications are that these thinclads will be the Southland's one-lap representatives in the state meet, with Carter given a slight DELIVERED LOCALLY for a big, roomy sedan, ready to drive. Fishing News Angling has been fair to good in several areas fished by local rod and reel enthusiasts during the past week, and a general improvement of fishing conditions is indicated, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California. In this area the following streams have been stocked by the Fish and Game commission and should prove the top angling spots: San Gabriel River (west fork) in Los Angeles county; Jenks Lake, Arrowbar Lake and Santa Ana river in San Bernardino county; Upper Sespe river, Howard creek, Matilija creek, Matilija reservoir and Matilija creek (north fork), in Ventura county. Heres a rundown of some of the other streams: Good catches of trout have been reported at Arrowhead on spinners baited with worms. While at Big Bear, fair to good catches of blue gill and crapple have been made on Li-cut and worms. A few trout have been picked up on salmon eggs. In the Inyo-Mono areas trout fishing has been slow in higher elevations because of cold water, but in general quite a few catches have been reported. Bait and spinner fishing has been best. It is still too early for flies. Small streams from Line Pine north are reported in good condition. Some have been planted two or three times. Streams in the vicinity producing the best results are Tuttle, Lone Pine, Hogback, Symmes, Independence, Oak, Bairs, Goodale, Taboose, Birch, Big Pine and Shepherd. Anaheim Tennis Notes Anaheim tennis fans are looking forward to one of the finest displays of net talent to be seen locally in years as semi-finals and finals of the first Anaheim closed tennis championships are played tomorrow and Sunday on the City park courts. Finals in all seven events will take place from 1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday afternoon, with gold statuettes and medals being presented to winners and runners-up at 5:00. Matches during the week have developed some real battles as favorites have been extended to the limit to survive some of the opening rounds. Bob Carlson, president of the Anaheim Tennis club, was forced into a two-hour tussle before turning back the challenge of Bob Rosborough 8-10, 6-2, 6-1. Carlson then went on to defeat Sam Bogoshian 6-0, 6-3, to gain the round of four where he has to play Ron Brandon this afternoon. Brandon had defeated Jim Webb 6-0, 6-4, and Floyd Baker 6-1, 8-6, in his quarter of the draw. In the lower half Glen Lehmer took a well-played match from Dick Hanson 6-2, 6-1; while Wes Warwick gained a default from Julian Martinez who became ill and had to quit with the score 4-2 against him in the first set. Carlson also teamed with Jim Wright to go into the semi-finals of the men's doubles with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Bob Hoskins and Jim Webb. In the junior event Dean Stokes won an easy victory over Merle where he was a heavy winner in the war years and for seven seasons afterward, the latter which were spent with Pittsburgh.
