Los Alamitos and Davies Bakery
Take City Park Softball Games
In the first game of the doubleheader last night, Los Alamitos defeated the Stanton Merchants 6-0 in the National league encounter at City park. Davies Bakery walloped Koopman's Furniture 7 to 1' in the second game.
Los Alamitos broke up a 3 to 2 total game in the bottom half of the sixth inning, as Louie DeLeon walked, Raul Sanchez sacrificed, Neal Sanders flied to right field. Manuel Napoles singled, Bill Gallager singled, Jim Jefferies singled and "Pingo" Zamarripa allowed to score three runs to take a lead that Stanton couldn't overcome. In the top half of the seventh, Joe Lemus drew a base on balls, was forced at second, while Pete Mendoza was on first with a fielder's choice. Joe Munoz allowed to right and Mendoza scored. Art Cabral and Leonard Rohrgues both grounded out to end the ball game.
Bill Gallager of Stanton collected two hits in three official trips, scoring three runs and driving in two more. Jim Jefferies also collected two safeties, and drove in two runs. Los Alamitos pitcher Ralph Sancher allowed only four hits while striking out seven Stanton men.

Scotty Robb Lands in AL
CHICAGO (AP)—Umpire Douglas W. "Scotty" Robb, formerly of the National League, has been snapped up by the American League—the quickest change of sides by an arbitrator in major baseball history.
Forty-eight hours after Robb, a four-year veteran of the senior circuit, resigned following a fine and disciplinary action by League President Warren Giles, he was hired by Will Harridge, boss of the American loop.
"Robb is the kind of gentleman we like to have on our umpiring staff," said Harridge. "We needed another umpire and considered Robb a good one."
Robb will make his A.L. debut in the White Sox-Boston Red Sox game here Tuesday night.
He was accused of shoving Manager Eddie Stanky of the St. Louis Cardinals in a game at Cincinnati April 22. Giles fined and disciplined him.
Stanky was fined $50 and Cardinal shortstop Solly Hemus $25.
"I am happy to be back in baseball," Robb said. "When Mr. Harridge approached me I was so choked up I couldn't talk."
At Cincinnati, Giles said "I'm very glad Robb has found employment ... he could have continued in our league ... he is a good umpire, but under the circumstances he probably will be happier in the American league."

What they're saying in the sports world today...
The key to the St. Louis Brown fall-off after the earlier Brownie surge is found on the throwing hill.
Rogers Hornsby has four able flingers in Bob Cain, the great Ned Garver, Duane Pillette, and Tommy Bryne. But after that the corps fails off in pitiful fashion, and the old Rajah doesn't have even a semblance of a fifth nallway reliable starter.
Thus the entire burden is thrown on the four men and they are by necessity fearfully overworked.
This last was borne out clearly 'other day when Washington, heavy favorites to finish last in the league in '32, walloped the daylights out of the strong-armed Garver for three innings before he was mercifully lifted for a pinch-hitter.
When anyone blasts Garver that hard, you know something 'is wrong. Likewise each of the others has failed to finish his last start, and the Brownie bubble or a club strong enough to stay in the pennant fight all season has...

Anahi Baseballers Face Newport Team
Looking for their second win in four starts, the Anaheim high school baseball squad tackles its first away-from-home opponent tomorrow afternoon as the team meets Newport Harbor on the Sailor diamond at 3:00.
Dick Ramella will start as pitcher for the Colonists. To date, Ramella has subbed behind the hurling of Val Wietborn. Remainder of the lineup remains the same with the exception of right fielder Pat Roberts who chipped a bone in his arm during Tuesday's Fullerton game and will be replaced by JV Dave Moody.
Coach John Wallin's men are looking for their second league win in three starts, having dropped games to Huntington and Fullerton and win over Santa Ana.
HORNSBY AND Bill Veeck had better get into business in trading marts and latch onto another starter or two before the bottom falls completely out from under the Mound city express.
Speaking of Washington, the California Intercollegiate Baseball association in general and Coaches Clint Evans of California and Rod Dedcaux of SC in particular must be feeling awfully happy this week.
To them, as to this department, the immediate success of ex-Trojan Archie Wilson and ex-Bear Jackle Jensen following their donning of Senator regalia probably comes as no surprise.
As a Yankee, Jensen was under constant pressure, especially this year with the sacred shadow of
Giants Sign Outfielder to Replace Mays
ST. LOUIS UP—The New York Giants, who will lose centerfielder Willie Mays to the Army in 10 days, had another outfielder today.
The defending National League champions bought Bill Howerton for the waiver price of $10,000 yesterday from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Giant Manager Leo Durocher said:
"I don't know yet just where Howerton will fit in. All I know is I'm glad to have him. He does everything well and I know he can handle the centerfield berth."
The Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph said:
"Inasmuch as the other six clubs of the league had a chance to grab Howerton before the Giants' draft claim could be made valid, there were whisperings that Durocher and Horace Stoneham had put through a slick deal and had paid at least twice as much as the waiver price for Howerton."
DiMaggio facing him every time he trotted into the center field position. Casey Stengel's policy towards him was "either produce or ride the bench."
When Jensen got off to a very slow start this spring, he was immediately tacked to the bench, and no ballplayer ever overcame a slump while riding the splinters.
Even the Game Was Given Away By Hollywood Stars Last Night
Young Willie Luna, strikeout king of the Southwest International league last year, is shaping up as one of the best Pacific Coast league pitching boys ever.
The San Diego Padres bought the fireball left-hander from Tijuana for a measly $500. Today Willie is at the top of the PCL heap with five wins and no losses.
Despite his youth—he's only 22—Luna has unusual poise and plenty of courage when in trouble. Possessor of a buggy whirl arm, he has a good curve, a better fast ball and knows how to mix 'em up.
Last night Luna tossed his second consecutive shutout, a 1-0 victory over Sacramento, which boasts an array of real power sluggers. He fanned five, allowee only four hits and scored the winning run.
The run came after Lefty Chet Johnson, Luna's opponent in a brilliant pitching duel, walked Willie, who went to second on Jackie Tobin's sacrifice and scored on Thurman Tucker's single. Johnson gave only two hits.
IT WAS giveaway night at Hollywood. The management handed out prizes from TV sets to grocery bags to 5360 customers. The Stars gave away a ball game—to San Francisco, 10-7.

Horace Mann Ties for First
Horace Mann moved into a hole for first place in the Recreation Department's Juvenile "A League," as the team whipped Thomas Jefferson 14-1 yesterday on the City park diamond. Robert Godoy, the Horace Mann pitcher pitched a no-hit ball game. The only run off of Godoy came in the fifth inning as a result of an error.
It seems that the Horace Mann pitchers really have a jink on the Jefferson batters, because this marks the second time this year that the Horace Mann pitcher has held them hitless. Last game it was Billy Larson who pitched the no-hitter.
Horace Mann won the game in the first inning, as they scored seven runs on two base hits, four walks, and one error. They added two runs in the second, four more in the third inning, and ended their scoring in the fourth inning with one run. The last run was a home run by Louis Acosta, the Horace Mann centerfielder.
Butch Harker scored the only Jefferson run in the fifth inning when he was safe on an error by the first baseman, stole second base and scored on an error by the shortstop.

Since they traded New York flannels for Washington, Wilson has hit .526. Jensen. 450 and Shea has pitched 1-0.
Jensen cashed in two more hits last night in the Senators' 6-2 romp over feeble Detroit. The veteran Sid Hudson didn't need much help behind his five-hit effort.
While the Senators continued to spree, the Yanks still were shaking their heads over the strange sight of two straight Cleveland wins at Yankee Stadium. Mike Garcia got home with a 7-2 victory over the Yanks although nicked for 12 hits.
The Indians needed that decision to stick one game behind the league-leading Boston Red Sox who crushed Chicago, 7-2, on southpaw Bill Henry's pitching and batting. The rookie backed up his five-hit work with a triple and single that drove in two runs. It was his fourth straight.
For the second consecutive year the U.S. tennis team will meet Japan in the first round Tie of the American Zone competition For the Davis Cup.
