GROWING CONCERN—Beginning with a shop for the production of low-temperature dehydrators, P and L Welding and Machine Co. has now added a new department, P and L Transmission Co., Inc. located at the east end of La Palma ave., next to the UP tracks, the firm distribute V-belts, sprockets, chains, etc. to Orange county manufacturers. (Gazette photo by Kreidt) P & L Adds New Transmission Department Two Anaheim men, C. H. (Bud) Pelser and Kenneth Lanker, who in 1943 joined their initials to name a new manufacturing establishment here, P & L Welding and Machine Co., today have the physical proof that they have progressed right along with a growing Anaheim. Pelser and Lanker began building low-temperature dehydrating equipment in the building at San Antonio and Los Angeles sts. recently occupied by the S. E. Whieldon Johns-Manville agency. Eventually they outgrew the building and were forced to move to more commodious quarters at 519 E. La Palma ave. During that time, their products have been sold all over the United States, but distribution has been mainly foreign, including England, Peru, Canada, and Mexico. Last year Pelser and Lanker began a building program with expanded operations in mind. They built a modern office building to the west of the shop and behind the office building constructed an 8000 square foot warehouse. One room became a long line of stock. in 1943 joined their initials to name a new manufacturing establishment here, P & L Welding and Machine Co., today have the physical proof that they have progressed right along with a growing Anaheim. Movie stars who are trying to convince the public that at heart they are simple, kitchen-loving, hearthside-hugging souls. The public always has enjoyed having a few glamorous, remote theatrical souls around, who bathe in mare's milk, eat nightingale tongues and are delightfully unbelieveable: we can find simple folk living right next door to us. POLITICIANS WHO never admit there's a question they can't answer. It would be refreshing and confidence-making occasionally to have one or more of our public servants confess to a lack of opinion. In his letter, Mike said he was shocked to hear of the monarch's passing, and added, "I felt as thohe he was our King too." Well, Mike got an answer recently which thanked him for his kind letter and added: "Her Majesty was deeply touched by your thought for her in her sorrow. Yours sincerely, (signed) Clanteris." and it would be nice to be reassured just once that it will be possible to get a second season out of a dress or hat—because most of us will anyway. For violations the fine was $20 or imprisonment at the discretion of the mayor! The year 1871, a year of great drought and depression, hit Anaheim hard. The result was a legislative bill, signed by Governor Booth, repealing the act which had incorporated the city. Liquification occurred with an unpaid debt of $358.21. Even before this, one salary of the city marshal was reduced from $50 to $25 monthly. The city was bankrupt. The city was reincorporated in 1877 as the "Town of Anaheim" and at the same time paid off the indebtedness. FOR NEARLY 25 years Anaheim was the greatest wine producing district in California. Now, the "fossilized old" governmental reprobates of yester-year have long since gone, but even with our hearts filled with charity, I think we are compelled to concede that government, in 1952, compares favorably with government of 1870, so far as problems and discomfitures are concerned. Indeed, there are some, and I include myself among them, who incline towards the view that modern public questions are, to say the least, a little knottier and a bit more difficult of solution than they were 80 years ago.
