M. 207 was organized, and my grandfather was among the original members. THE FIRE department was organized in 1872. It boasted a hook and ladder, buckets and a hand drawn truck plus a fire bell. The cost was $500. Anaheim's first bank, the Bank of Anaheim was organized in 1876. P. Davis and Brother organized their private bank then. The pioneer press of Anaheim and of Orange county as well, was the "Anaheim Gazette," whose first issue was published October 29, 1870. The press used had been shipped around the Horn. In 1875 the Southern Pacific Railway completed a branch to Anaheim and for nearly two years Anaheim was the terminus. Then it was extended to Santa Ana. In 1887 the Santa Fe built its road into Anaheim and at the same time the "boom" Hotel Del Campo, which cost $40,000 was built. As a result of the new depot's erection, a street railway was established to connect the Southern Pacific and the Santa Fe. ANAHEIM WAS incorporated as a city February 10, 1870. Max Von Strobel was its first mayor, serving without pay, having secured a majority of the 96 votes cast.
