Members of the administrative and manufacturing force are moving into the spacious plant in Anaheim's southeast section; and, Dixie Cup officials hope they will be in production on their world-famous paper cups by mid-summer.
Immediate objective of the company is to have approximately 150 persons on the pay-roll when the equipment is installed and the manufacturing processes and systems get under way.
General manager of the Anaheim division of Dixie Cup is Fred T. Krein, who has been associated with Dixie Cup for 30 years. For the past six years prior to coming to the Anaheim plant, Mr. Krein was Pacific general manager of the company with headquarters in Los Angeles.
Plant superintendent of the new Anaheim enterprise is J. K. Hauck, who comes to Anaheim from the Dixie Cup plant in Darlington, S. C. Mr. Hauck has been in the Dixie Cup company for 18 years.
LATE LAST YEAR, Dixie Cup began an intensive search of the West Coast to find a location for its West Coast plant. By March 1, this year, the quest narrowed down to Anaheim, and the company secured a lease on the 100,000 square foot plant originally built to house the Daystrom Furniture company.
Soon after, Dixie Cup put into operation its plan to move into Anaheim quarters and get production underway. The company will manufacture the world renowned line of Dixie cups and containers in Anaheim.
Mr. Krein points out that the plant is not a "war baby." And, about 65 per cent of the employees will be women.
Within a short period the one-story building will represent a total investment in machinery, equipment, facilities, and rental of more than $1,000,000, company officials say.

Mr. Krein has been in the Dixie Cup organization for 30 years, while Mr. Hauck's affiliation with the company goes back 18 years. The two men hope to have the $1,000,000 plant operation in production by mid-summer. The company will manufacture Dixie Cup's line of world-famous paper containers.

Holes should be dug deep and large enough to permit the roots to spread wide. Before setting in the roots, cut off cleanly any broken or bruised portions. When planting bushes in the spring cut the tops back to about six inches from the ground, leaving, if possible, a bud on the outside. In planting make certain the union point is an inch or so below the ground in most climates.
USE WATER plentifully to settle the soil so there are no air pockets around the roots, and then fill the rest of the hole. For the first couple of weeks, mound dirt high over the plant to keep it from drying out.
Cultivate the beds the year round and in dry seasons soak the soil thoroughly when necessary. (There are a number of proprietary preparations on the market for both feeding and protecting roses from pests. They should be fed in the spring and early

Cane roses are planted the same way. Ramblers may be pruned immediately after flowering. Climbers need little pruning, and bear their best flowers on old wood.
Livelihood of 7,500 Folks Comes From Industries and Citrus Firms
There are some 85 plants in Anaheim which manufacture goods or process agricultural products which go to the four corners of the earth.
Employed in these enterprises are some 3500 people, who probably are breadwinners for almost 7500 folks in Anaheim and environs.
The citrus packers and citrus product manufacturers are beloved to employ about 950 persons on a yearly average.
Machine shops, and other metal working plants give employment to almost 200 workers.
The medium sized plants, which include a wide variety of manufacturers from hosiery, through chemicals and wire, to house trailers, employ more than 800 people.
The new Dixie Cup plant, now coming into operation, will soon employ 150, while the growing Robertshaw-Fulton plant now employs around 200. Both plants are expected to increase their payrolls in the future.
The big new employer in Anaheim is Northrop Aviation which now has 900 people on the employment rolls. Kwikset Locks has almost 600 people.
Figured roughly, therefore, the fine industrial units of Anaheim alone employ some 3500 men and women. If 3000 of these people are "breadwinners" with families averaging 2½ persons, there are some 7500 people who gain their livelihood directly from Anaheim's industries and citrus plants. (One year ago, this figure was put at 5000 persons.)

ROBINS, TOO, LIKE
CALIFORNIA CLIMATE
PASADENA (P) — The robin population in Southern California is the largest in years and nobody seems to know why. However, the Audubon Society has ventured a theory or two:
The society believes heavy storms in nearby mountains have forced the red-breasted birds down to warmer climes. Also the recent use of plants with red berries to landscape Southern California homes has some bearing on the case—robins love red berries.
