Over 300 separate pieces of machinery in its production shop and tooling area make Northrop-Anaheim one of the most mechanized industries in Orange county. News From... Over 900 persons have now joined the Northrop-Anaheim production team. We have been fortunate in obtaining a large percentage of this number from this area and we hope to continue to draw future personnel from Orange County as our needs increase. Every member of our working force is playing an important part in the defense program of the nation. THERE IS ROOM FOR MORE . . . Additional positions will become open as our gradual expansion program nears completion. There is a great need for skilled people, especially those with experience in optical assembly. The high degree of specialization in optical work at Northrop-Anaheim creates a demand for people with special capabilities. Northrop’s Anaheim Plant Is ReResidents of Anaheim and other Orange county communities are acquiring new skills and putting their technical knowledge to work for Uncle Sam’s defense program at Northrop Aircraft’s Anaheim Division. Many Anaheimers are assembling parts for the vitally-needed fire control instruments being produced at Northrop-Anaheim for the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps. Other phases of operation at the factory find Orange county people manning precision machinery, inspecting optical equipment or operating tabulating machines and typewriters. Already 900 persons have been employed at Northrop’s 250,000-square-foot installation. This number is growing every day and an expected 1500 will be on the payroll at the end of 1952. Through the cooperation of local residents, Northrop has been able to establish and rush into high production in a short time the only large-scale precision optical assembly plant on the west coast. OPTICAL WORK is no easy task. Steady hands are required to join parts in, close tolerance; nimble fingers must operate drill presses and larger machinery; constant ingenuity is needed to improve existing designs and create new ones. The management of the Anaheim Division has expressed its appreciation of the way Orange countians have stepped into unfamiliar jobs and, with a minimum of training, have become members of the Northrop-Anaheim production team. Richard R. Nolan, Northrop-Anaheim manager, expresses the feeling in these words: "Orange county folks are tops in my book for their resourcefulness, skill and willpower." PRODUCTION acitivity is not the only phase of the Northrop operation that demands the type of high-caliber personnel found in the Anaheim area. In addition to hundreds of production jobs, there are many clerical skills required to run a growing concern. Typists, accountants, purchasing agents, personnel interviewers, stenographers, mimeographers, and countless other tasks must be filled to complete the production pattern. The Anaheim branch of the Northrop Recreation club has recently been established to bring an organized program of leisure time clubs and activities to the new facility.
