I DON'T SEE HOW THERE COULD I TIMES AND HE KNOCKED YOU COLD IN Film Designer Raps New Flat-Chested Paris Look By BOB THOMAS HOLLYWOOD GP—Good heavens, men, look what those Frenchmen are up to now! They are trying to foist flat-chested fashions on American women. This startling news came from Jean Louis, fashion designer for Columbia Studios, who adds that the Parisians won't get away with it. I visited the salon of Louis, a dapper little man who is himself a native of Paris. But he has been in this country long enough to appreciate the American curves. He showed me some magazine pictures of the latest styles from Paris. "Look at them," he said, clucking his tongue. "The waist is either too high or too low. That means that the normal curves of the bust and the hips are camouflaged. It is very bad. "I do not blame the Paris designers. They are in the business to create new things and generate excitement. Neither they nor the buyers for the American companies care about the figures of the women in this country." "But American men do. And American women care what their men think about them. That's why I think this new flat-chested look does not have a chance with women of this country." Louis remarked that the new style was a throwback to the 1920s, when women strapped their chests to hide the curves. "But we cannot go back to the '20s." he added. "A whole new women." Louis remarked that the new style was a throwback to the 1920s, when women strapped their chests to hide the curves. "But we cannot go back to the '20s," he added. "A whole new generation of women has grown up. Women have become liberated; they fake jobs and they indulge in sports. American women have the best figures in the world and they are proud of it. They are not going to hide the beauty of their bodies just because the Parisian designers come up with something new." "The ERA OF today is unlike any since early Greek times. That was when men and women were proud of their bodies and dressed to show themselves off to best advantage." The designer added that the flat-chested look would make no headway in the movies. "Why, if I tried to dress Rita Hayworth in styles like that, I would be out of a job," he said. "Furthermore, it would be impossible." Louise concluded that in the end U.S. men would be the determining factor in rejecting the flat-chested look. Does that mean that American women dress to please the men? "The good-looking women dress for men," he replied, "the not-so-attractive ones dress for other From May 6 to 8 inclusive, 200 Lutheran laymen and representing more churches throughout the west will gather in their annual conference, to be the First Methodist church Angeles.
