Euphoria Society View Film on Hawaii The county branch of the National Fuchsia Society will have on the program a film, "Hawaiian Gardens," at its next meeting, April 29, 8 p.m. in American Legion hall. The film shows the beautiful, exotic gardens of Hawaii. Mr. Euphoria Hedrick will give his monthly talk on "Feeding and Spraying Fuchsias Now." A potluck dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. will be served prior to the meeting. The public is invited to attend both the dinner and the meeting, according to branch officials. Daylight Saving Advantages Told Drive-in movie fans were reminded today by Manager Fred Boe of Orange Drive-in theater that "Daylight Saving Time, Beginning at 2 a.m. Sunday, will change the beginning hour of the local movie, making it an hour later." "It's a break for the home owner," he said, "because it gives extra daylight hours to get repair and cleaning work done on the house, wash the car, perhaps, or take care of other evening duties before going to the drive-in. And, one can get there in time for the start of the first picture, thereby doing away with the 'mid-picture' blues." The first patent for a system of wireless transmission in the United States was issued to Dr. Anaheim Gazetteer by JOIN S. NEUBAUER ... For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanishes away.—James 4:14. And the Hungarian reds freed Robert Yogeler, the engineer who had been imprisoned on a trumped-up charge ... A 19-year-old Placentian, Robert William Milligan, was the county's 37th traffic fatality. He was killed in an Atwood head-on collision. George Westover, 18, a passenger, was seriously injured, while Floyd Johnson, 36, of Hemet, driver of the other car, received minor injuries ... Faulkner 50 to 1 Over McFadden By Edward Faulkner A Third District survey by disinterested parties shows Faulkner favored over McFadden for supervisor by 50 to 1. County employees, McFadden's close personal friends and former campaign boosters also favor Faulkner. Reasons stated indicate no personal dislike for McFadden, only his lack of interest, ability and closed mind attitude. This is not the time nor the place to have a closed mind, in handling the problems of our county government. Irene Montoya became Mrs. Demetrio Lopez. Death claimed Mrs. Ida Ellen Young, 81, and Anaheimer for 32 years. Eutimio Nieto, 67, who resided here 25 years died at his home at the Independencia colony. Sportswise, Anahi dropped an 8-1 game to Fullerhi. Fullerhi won the Sunset Swimfest. Leonard Weaver, Ira Webber and Al Clayes picked up points for Anahi. The World Champion Orange Lionnettes beat Hollywood, 4-3. That was a year ago when Ralph Smedley, founder of the Toastmasters' International, won a speaking contest. Remember? REMINDER—Don’t forget to lose an hour’s sleep Sunday so that you can gain it back this fall. Daylight saving, y’know. LINES-O-TYPE—The next time you see Forrest (Buster) Callan, the genial Orangethorper, ask him about his daughter’s interview with Queen Juliana and Prince Berenhard, Mayor Fletcher Bowron’s guest at Ellay. Mary Ann Callan meets the nicest people in pursuit of her typewriter-pounding career. Jesse Ramiriz, the suave Placentia aircrafter, is in the service. A lot of fellows, it seems, go into “defense work” to dodge the service call. Jesse welcomed it. No deferment for him! Tommy Fallin, who gained fame as Anaheim’s hamburger king, is doing right well now that he’s turned aircrafter. He and Al (Tex) Lary have the flying business tied up as far as Northern Orange county is concerned. ELECTION—The county road department is fixing up the streets adjacent to the cities. That’s a sure sign that there’s going to be a supervisorial election. While they’re at it, they might as well get signals for the “coroner’s corner.” COLUMNISTS CARROUSEL—Jack Dutton’s chimp is getting a lot of publicity in the public prints. The chimp, Jack and his charming wife, Dorothy, have also This is not the time nor the place to have a closed mind, in handling the problems of our county government. Orange county, already growing rapidly, is at the verge of a new and greater spurt of growth that will undoubtedly surpass anything we have seen. The Third supervisorial district, especially, is directly in the path of this surge of industry and population into Orange County. There is already ample evidence that it will be channeled along Santa Ana Freeway (Manchester boulevard). These new problems will confront the Third district first of all. We must pioneer the way to their solution. What happens if the Third district has a Supervisor who is "sot" in his ways, unwilling or unable to adjust to changing conditions? Can we stop progress? Hardly. What we must have is, first, an open mind, and second, the training and calm judgment to guide our development on an orderly course, so that we will not lose the fine foundation for good living that the old timers have built into Orange county. Orange county is on its way. Let us see that the way lies straight forward, and makes no wrong turn. And may we have a Supervisor who will not be pushing the brake pedal to the floor boards. Jul.
