Center st. on Friday and Satsaturday, April 25 and 26, W. J. Meade, manager, announced today. “We want to give our customers the most convenient facilities for shopping available,” he said, “thus have moved into these new quarters to meet the demands of our growing community.” The remodeling of the former Rice Bros. Furniture store was begun about a month ago. The store has been completely redecorated and modernized. With over 12,000 square feet of shopping area, McMahan’s will continue to carry a complete line of household furnishings and appliances. There will be adequate parking space at the rear of the store, and rear entrances will afford an added convenience for shoppers. In celebration of the opening, the company will award to visitors on Friday and Saturday more than $1,000.00 worth of merchandise. Orchid corsages will be presented to the women, and the children will receive novelties. There also will be $10.00 merchandise awards given hourly both days starting at 10:00 a.m. and continuing through 8:00 p.m. On Friday evening at 8:30 there will be five grand prizes given. These prizes include a Kelvinaton Freezer, a two piece living room set, a chrome dinette set, a Benrus watch, and a $29.95 table lamp. Grand prizes at the same time on Saturday will be an O’Keefe and Walter Meade Heads New Store. Merchandising brain of McMahan’s new Anaheim furniture store is Walter J. Meade, 613 N. Phi helphia st., Anaheim. He is newcomer to the new build having worked in it for five years when it was occupied by Mahan and Fitz some time ago. Most cent occupants were Rice Bros. also furniture merchants. Meade, who came here from Denver, Colo., in 1938, has been merchandising furniture since 1917. He spent 13 years with chain establishment in Denver five with Mahaffey and Fitz, three years with another store Orange county. He joined the Mahan organization in 1951. Meade’s family includes wife, Fay, a married daughter Mrs. Mary Jane Parrish, living Bellflower, and three children living at home; Jay, a sophomore FJC; Jack, a senior at AUHS; Judy-10. Local GI Comes Home on Funston SEATTLE (P)—An Easter Sunday death occurred at sea as the Navy transport Frederick Funston brought Korean war rotatees back to this country. The Funston arrived this forenoon at the Seattle Port of Embarkation. Corp. Keith M. Leigh, about 23, of Rt. I. Rochelle, Ill., died of a cerebral hemorrhage April 13 aboard the Funston. Pfc. Charles E. Hutson, 10072 S. Gilbert st., Anaheim, was one of those arriving with the group. Young GOP's Set First Meet First meeting of the reactivated Orange County Young Republicans organization is set for 8 p.m. tonight at Anaheim YMCA hall, 121 S. Citron st. PHLOX DOWNEY Three-Day Conference of Missouri Synod Lutheran Ministers Closes The annual Sierra-Pacific conference of Lutheran pastors and teachers in Southern California, meeting at Zion Lutheran church of this city, was brought to an impressive conclusion yesterday with a closing devotion conducted by the conference chairman, Rev. L. Jakels of Escondido. The last day of the conference which began on Monday of this week was opened Wednesday morning with a devotion by the Rev. Martin Lankow of San Diego. The Rev. G. Mackensen, El Centro, then concluded his presentation of an analysis of the New Testament book of Titus. The Rev. E. J. Brott, Southern California Institutional Missionary, presented a paper on the topic, "Practical Thoughts on the Ministry to the Sick." The Stewardship Counsellor of the Southern California District of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, Rev. A. G. Webbeking of Los Angeles, reported on district financial matters. Tubbs. Total farm acreage dropped from 150,523 acres to 150,396 acres, under pressure of expanding urban population, although field acreage gained slightly. Truck crop acreage dropped from 16,699 to 16,058 acres, orchard area dropped from 65,359 to 64,651 acres. Orchard income boomed from $33,517,200 in 1950 to $48,420,400 in 1951, with valencia oranges, Orange county's special, yielding $41,535,000. Animal industry income jumped from $28,040,350 to $39,534,220. Truck crops, although decreased in area, showed increased income, from $8,079,100 to $11,-024,400. Gains of lesser degree were shown in nursery stock, field crops and apiary returns. Tubbs listed 17 crops and industries with income of more than a million dollars each. Valencia oranges, at the head of the list, were followed by the dairy industry, $19,887,000; poultry, $10,854,-400; beans (field and green) $6,-952,500; beef cattle $4,353,000; lemons-$4,204,000; hay, grain and pasture $2,304,800; nursery stock $1,-544,000; turkeys $1,317,000; strawberries $1,315,000; tomatoes (market) $1,302,500; tomatoes (canning) $1,267,000; navel oranges $1,088,700; hatcheries $1,056,600; avocadoes $1,031,200; peppers $1,-006,800. by BUNGALOW ELECTRIC 613 S.
