Could not see daylight through the hole. It was like an umbrella and chirling crosswise like a smoke ring. The inner dome was ribbed with dark and light colors, the dark ones probably nitrogen dioxide."
The desert under the bomb was moist from rains Saturday and Sunday. The flash of heat lasting three seconds—baked this area white, with alkali giving the color.

School for Retarded Children Proposed
Construction of a 10-room school for mentally retarded children of Orange county was proposed to the county supervisors yesterday by Linton Simmons, county superintendent of schools.
The supervisors will seek an architect's estimate of the probable cost, which was placed at approximately $100,000 by Simmons. A special tax on all school districts might be the way to finance the structure, he said.
Simmons said he would try to locate a site owned by the county, and perhaps may suggest a location near the county hospital.
Seven rooms are now being used for such instruction, said Simmons, the Broadway school in Anabecim and Cypress school in Orange providing quarters. Santa Ana has its own facilities for such instruction.

Atter the Seals had loaded the bases without a hit, on an error by Solon shortstop Dick Meyers and two walks, Jim Moran knocked out a fly. Joe Gordon and Joe Marty became confused, let it fall, and the winning run came home.
