For Results and Quick Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN K. NEUBAUER As ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.—Luke 6:31. BYGONES—A year ago Republicans got together and slashed Harry Truman's proposed tax program. That was when 700,000 Chinese were poised to strike U.N. forces. General Douglas MacArthur visited the Korean front. And closer to home Tom E. Danson, the erstwhile TV-radio log compiler who started a radio station in Laguna was sued by four parties. 300 names were drawn for jury duty. Lupe Vargas became Mrs. Thomas Delgadi. The Stork paid visits to the Mike Duarte, Reuben Valdra, Edward Ochoa and Manuel Perez families. Death claimed Mrs. Rosetta C. Gibson, 84, and Anaheimer for 24 years. Anahi beat Wilson (Long Beach) 5-3 in baseball. Compton, Newport and Orange won most Brea relay honors. Those were some of the news items you read a year ago. Remember? FREE ENTERPRISE—It was in 1905 that Alex Morales Sr. established one of Anaheim's unique manufacturing enterprises. Pomona Akumni Dine at Garden Grove Tonight Some 200 members of the Pomona college alumni of Orange county will attend the spring dinner meeting at Garden Grove tonight at 6:30. Ahumni, guests, parents of students and parents of prospective students will hear the Pomona College Men's Glee club under the direction of William F. Russell, and a panel discussion on "Your College, Today and Tomorrow." Speakers will be: President E. Wilson Lyon; Dr. J. Edward Sanders, dean of students; Earl J. "Fuzz" Merritt, varsity football coach; and Pomona's newest Rhodes Scholar, senior James Steffensen of Corona del Mar. The Board of Governors of the Orange County Pomona alumni is made up of Stanley Warburton, chairman, Fullerton; George Dunton, Santa Ana; Mrs. Don Watson, Santa Ana; Capt. Craig Longwell, Larson AFB, Washington; George Phillips, Santa Ana; Mrs. Howard K. Smith, Huntington Beach; Donald Pierotti, Placentia; and Richard Schweitzer, Costa Mesa. Carl Granere Gets Chief Rate FREE ENTERPRISE — It was in 1905 that Alex Morales Sr. established one of Anaheim's unique manufacturing enterprises — The Alex Tamale Co. It was one of the first of its kind and there was a demand for his product. It was natural that the concern grew and prospered. In a few weeks, the Morales Brothers — Alex Jr., Richard, Charles, William and Albert— will open their new Alex Tamale Factory on North Lemon street. It is too bad that Old Alex didn't live to see the day when his enterprise expanded to a point where it has a modern air-conditioned plant, operates a score of refrigerated trucks, distributes more than 300 food products besides 16 products of its own. PROGRESS — Since 1905 the Anaheim firm has grown from a family venture to a concern employing nearly a hundred men and women. That's success. SIDELIGHTS — The Brothers Morales are proud of the new building erected for them by Nicholas South and Son. The other day Alex Jr., president of the growing enterprise, stood at a distance and admired the newly painted sign that was just taking form on the north side of the building. Sunday the trucks were lined up and a photographer snapped the vast panorama that is a symbol of Anaheim enterprise. Alex Jr. has an office befitting an executive in the new building. Naturally, he comes in for a lot of good-natured kidding. "Why, he's even got a sign on his desk with his name on it. They really kid him about that." And William Morales—he's the engineering genius of the family—is going to take charge of the boiler room of the new factory. A few months ago Mrs. Morales C. Gibson, B4, and Anaheim for 23 years... Anahi beat Wilson (Long Beach) 5-3 in baseball... Compton, Newport and Orange won most Brea relay honors... Those were some of the news items you read a year ago. Remember? Carl Granere Gets Chief Rate In Navy Reserve Carl Everett Granere of 211 S. Claudia, Anaheim, recently passed an all-service examination for Chief Hospital Man in the United States Naval Reserve and was formally commended by this commanding officer, Lt. Hal G. Polley, before a massed formation of officers and men of Organized Surface Division 11-28, Santa Ana. According to Lt. Polley, Granere is the first man of the local surface division to be advanced to the chief's rating. Besides passing the service examination with a perfect score, Chief Granere has maintained a 100 per cent attendance record at his Reserve Unit since his first reporting aboard in July 1947. Prior to that assignment he served as volunteer medic with the Recruiting Office, Santa Ana, giving physical examinations to men going on 14-day training duty and later to men who formed the initial complement of the Organized Surface Division 11-28. In token of the high appreciation for Granere's dependable services officers of the Organized Division presented him with a chief's hat and accompanying insignia. Chief Granere as a civilian holds the position of embalmer with Hilgenfeld Mortuary, Anaheim. Leo Carillo TV Show Entertains Local Kiwanis Members of the Leo Carillo television show entertained the Kiwanis club Tuesday noon at their regular weekly meeting. Alex Jr., has an office befitting an executive in the new building. Naturally, he comes in for a lot of good-natured kidding. "Why, he's even got a sign on his desk with his name on it. They really kid him about that." And William Morales—he's the engineering genius of the family—is going to take charge of the boiler room of the new factory. A few short years ago this willowy youngster was making athletic history at Anahi. ASSOCIATES — The Morales Brothers have a capable staff of co-workers. There is Albert Botatermal who grew up in the food business. There, too, is Leo Harpin, the firm's accountant who has set up a pension plan that serves as a model for smaller business enterprises. Sam Christensen, Robert Morales, William Morales, Alfred Morales, Forrest Packwood, Bill Meical, Arnold Gale and a host of other drivers distribute the products of the Anaheim factory and those of other firms throughout Southern California. The Gazettet salutes the Morales Brothers and their growing enterprise. They are truly representative of the best of the free enterprise system. Anaheim is a better place because Old Alex established his factory here and because the brothers carried on. NITECAPSULE — A lot of people go to church three times during their lifetimes—to get christened, to get married and for the funeral services. Leo Carillo TV Show Entertains Local Kiwanis Members of the Leo Carillo television show entertained the Kiwanis club Tuesday noon at their regular weekly meeting. Bob Sheppard, comedian, acted as Master of Ceremonies and introduced Hal Davis, producer of the television show and Jerry Dolan, pianist and musical director. Marie Petak, soprano soloist, sang several selections and two charming young ladies from Inglewood, Norma Holt and Dolly West, rendered several numbers. They were recent winners in the Compton talent quest. Oscar Solter was program chairman for the day. Ellis Backs, a misisonary who has recently returned from China, will address the club next Tuesday on the subject "I Escaped from the Communists in Western China." Rev. Frank Butterworth will be the program chairman. President A. J. Schutte announced that there will be a director's meeting at his home on Monday evening, April 7. FARM CENTER TO MEET Anaheim Farm Center members will hear a talk by John Murdy on impressions he gleaned in a recently completed trip through Europe when the center meets Apr. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Anaheim Union high school cafeteria. Murdy has been prominent in Orange civic and agricultural enterprises. NORTHROP ANAHEIM Has the following openings: Engineering Designer 'A' (Experienced in computing mechanisms) Optical Eng.
