Atom Experiments Develop New Cigarette Filter One of the first beneficial results of atomic energy development hit Los Angeles this week in the form of a new filter-tip cigaret, Kent. Named after Herbert A. Kent, president of P. Lorillard company, the new cigaret is available in only three cities in the United States at the present time—Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. The story of the new filter, called Micronite, which takes out nicotine and tars, is unique in cigaret history. It began with efforts to protect workers in the atomic energy plant at Oak Ridge, Tenn., from radio-activity. Everyone at AUHS wishes Lis the best of luck, and know that The story of the new filter, called Micronite, which takes out nicotine and tars, is unique in cigaret history. It began with efforts to protect workers in the atomic energy plant at Oak Ridge, Tenn., from radio-activity. The filtering material, a top wartime secret until a short time ago, when finally turned to cigarette uses, was found to be too perfect during early experiments. Tried on seasoned smokers, it was found that nothing came through but warm air. The problem then was to adapt the filter to permit only smoke and the tobacco flavor to pass through, leaving a high percentage of the nicotine and tars behind. It is estimated that the new brand will not be available through the rest of the country for about six months. she will represent Anaheim well. The Riding Club of AUHS held a meeting Tuesday morning and changed their name to the "Lazy A Riding Club." The Lazy A Riding Club will meet at 3:30 today to go on a ride in Irvine Park. Miss Dora Golder, advisor for the group, will accompany them. A new plan is being tried at AUHS during the weeks that the boys have their Colonist Club assemblies. While the girls used to go to the girls' gym for assembly, they will now stay in their second period class and popular music will be played over the loud speaker system. They may then study, or listen. A VOTE FOR EARRELL IS A VOTE FOR FREEDOM. —Pol. Adv.
