BYGONES — Just about this time last year Costello, the big-time racketeer, admitted that he kept $50,000 at home ... The world was speculating over the possibility that the reds may have caused the big European earthquake with one of their A-bombs ... Laurence R. Dalley, 16, added his name to the county death total. He went to sleep at the wheel and his car crashed into a tree south of Irvine ... Ray Reahayder, the civic-minded businessman, made an announcement regarding Anaheim's community chest drive ... Joseph Shuman received a couple of exemptions when his wife presented him with twins ... William Longden, likewise, became a proud papa ... Miss Anna Little, 85, died at a rest home. She had been an Anaheimer for 36 years ... Sportswise, Stam Hack's Ellay Angels beat the Chicago Cubs, 4-3 in an exhibition tilt

CONFIDENTIALITY — Anaheimers like like. A lot of them are all set to vote for him if he gets the nomination. Although, Anaheim is a hard-shelled Republican stronghold, Taft's popularity isn't overwhelming.
HUMAN NATURE—A steady stream of cars containing morbid curious, drove to Olinda last Sunday anxiously longing for an opportunity to see the twisted wreckage of a light plane that crashed in the rugged Carbon Canyon.
You've read the story and seen pictures of the light plane that crashed in the rugged hills just four miles from Olinda.
Shortly after Dave Addison, a civilian flier, spotted the wreckage an oilworker saw the Army helicopter from March Field hover over the death scene.
He and his wife walked over the rugged terrain and arrived at the scene before Bill Munia got there with a tractor to pull the wreckage off the bodies.
"It was the most gruesome thing we ever saw!" he said. "It was a sickening sight!"
People are funny critters. A lot of folks tried to get to the scene. Often this morbid curiosity hampers rescue operations.
Thrill-seekers can often be seen hampering rescue operations following a traffic accident.

Despite the general's victory, there will remain some in his camp who will continue to pray for his return. Some think he could have won by an even wider margin if he had been here to campaign.
To Taft the loss of all of New Hampshire's delegates and his defeat in the popularity contest was a teeth-rattling blow at a time when he believed his vigorous campaigning was going to pan voting gold.
The Ohio Senator has a chance to show his vote-getting prowess in the April 1 Wisconsin primary, but there he is matched with only minor candidates.
They are former Governor Harold E. Stassen of Minnesota, whose poor showing in New Hampshire will hurt him elsewhere, and Governor Earl Warren on California, whose popularity outside his state is untested in 1952.
The real test for Taft will be his primary meeting with Eisenhower in New Jersey. In the meantime, he must continue to carry what he has plainly shown is the irksome burden of his opponents' assertions that he can't win an election outside of Ohio.
Eisenhower's New Hampshire victory may make it easier for some Republican leaders to abandon their fence positions and make up their minds. It will make it more difficult for Taft's forces to recruit them.
The Democratic developments from Kefauver's victory over Truman could shake the president's hold on the party machinery.
Emmet J. Kelley, the state's Democratic National committee man, staked his own political future and that of his organization on the president and lost.
That will not pass unnoticed by Democratic state leaders elsewhere who are privately worried by the effect of the "corruption": charges levelled against the Tru-

Sheriff's officers had their hands full when the curious drove to the loney spot where Henry Ford McCracken had interred his tiny victim.
"People would crawl under the barb-wire fence just to see the shallow grave. They risk injury just for the thrill of being able to say they were at such-and-such a place where something-or-other happened," one officer said.
TAKE IT EASY—The highway death toll is mounting, friends. Take it easy when you take to the road. It might be well to remember, that some of those who become statistics are better off than those who are maimed and crippled in some of these grinding crashes.
ANAHEIM STREET SCENE—The officer was standing on the corner watching the steady stream of cars flow up and down Los Angeles street and back and forth on Center. The signals changed. The southbound traffic stopped to let the cast and west bound cars have the right of way. A youth in a coupe stopped behind another car and while he patiently waited for the signal to change, he heard a click and felt his car jolt slightly. The fellow directly in back of him was impatient—he wanted to get to the head of the line and pulled out into the center lane to pass the youth. The impatient one backed up and shouted something vigorously to the South. The cars moved on. The officer was unaware of the little drama that had taken place almost in front of him. In front of the Pickwick hotel, the cars pulled up to the curb and exchanged information for the insurance companies to wrangle about.
NITECAPSULE—A lot of bars may not be equipped to show TV, but they have fights just the same.
Emmet J. Kelley, the state Democratic National committee-man, staked his own political future and that of his organization on the president and lost.
That will not pass unnoticed by Democratic state leaders elsewhere who are privately worried by the effect of the "corruption" charges levelled against the Truman administration.
Some of them apparently believe Truman won't make as good a race—if he decides to run again—as they proclaim publicly that he will.
Their private belief is likely to be confirmed by the vote here and their enthusiasm dimmed for the president as a candidate or for any substitute he suggests.
Ancient, canal-laced Leghorn, Italy, has been pre-eminently a commercial center.
