Special Report Due to Receive Social Security
Self-employed persons now have one year's coverage under Federal social security, according to Garrett W. List, manager of the Santa Ana office of the Social Security Administration. Self-employed persons were first brought under the law effective Jan. 1, 1951. In order to receive social security credit for their 1951 self-employment income, List reminds owners and partners in trades or businesses that they must include a special report along with their income tax return due on or before March 15.
The social security tax report is required of all persons having a net income from self-employment of $400 or more in a year. The only exception is those persons who are farm owners or operators and professional people such as physicians, dentists, lawyers, accountants, funeral directors and some others.
The amount of tax from self-employed persons on their net income will range from a minimum of $8 to a maximum of $81. The rate is 2¼ per cent on self-employment earnings up to $3600.
It is very important, List stated, that the self-employed person apply for a social security account number if he has never had one before or if he has lost the original card. This number will be needed when he files his income tax return and it is the only means of assuring that proper credit for his county's treasury as Bank rich, second from left, po Harvey A.
