THE TAX MAN
He applies business to taxes. He is a tactician, ready for offensive as well as defensive play. He not only knows taxes inside out and outside in but he senses the individual and related possibilities of old and new taxing provisions and their interpretations, and employs them constructively.
He practices no jugglery or shady methods of evasion, but applies and coordinates the law. Business moves forward as he advises, with full understanding of all significant contingencies. His client suffers no inequities, and the tax-drain on its revenues is smaller than that suffered by its tax-negligent competitors.

Leathercraft to Be Given at JC
Two classes in leathercraft, one of the oldest yet one of the most modern of handicrafts, are a part of the current offering of the Fullerton evening Junior college. Beginning with the simple tooling of leather and the design and construction of useful leather articles, the class work will progress to the design and carving of handbags and larger leather projects.
One of the leathercraft classes meets Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m., and is under the direction of Mrs. Edna Collins. The other class meets from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays with Douglas Allan as instructor. Both Mrs. Collins and Allan have had extensive experience in leathercraft instruction in adult education classes.
Registration for the leathercraft classes may be made in the evening college office on the front arcade of the Fullerton Union high school campus. The office is open during the day and evening Monday through Thursday.
Keep Fit Class
"Come over for coffee" is a welcome invitation any time — whether motivated by a friendly spur of the minute impluse or a long planned gathering of the girls.
As an informal and delightful way of entertaining, morning "coffees" are rapidly growing in popularity and may have even started a new vogue. If you have attended one lately, you know what I mean.
If, busy homemaker that you are, you have been meaning to chat with friends and neighbors but just have not found the time, you might like to give a morning "coffee" yourself. Set the time and date, plan simple refreshments with plenty of steaming hot coffee, of course, and you are set for the party—and a morning of catching up on the neighborhood news.
COME AS YOU ARE
"Come as you are" parties is fun, especially when a host of congenial old friends are on the guest list. Think of some of the "get-ups" that will come to light as you unexpectedly round up your friends in your car at about 9:30 a.m. You will have a hilarious time if you let your best friend in on the secret to lend a group as your house will hold.
This form of hospitality is simplicity itself. Guests may either arrange themselves around the coffee table where cups can be conveniently be set down, or they may help themselves buffet style from a dining room table and then, plate and cup in hand, find a comfortable place to sit.
This is the time for your bright pottery dishes, gay cloth and paper napkins. But if you have been hankering to use your silver service and good linens and Wedgewood cups, be as fancy as you wish. Once the conversation starts to flow freely—which it will almost immediately or I don't know the gals—the setting will be appreciated but secondary.
MID-MORNING REFRESHMENTS
What will your midmorning refreshments be? Donuts or coffee cake fresh from the bakery? Cinnamon toast made right at the table? Hot rolls and home-made jam? Thin slices of your favorite quick bread followed by not so sweet cookies or bars? The choice is endless so long as it includes something simple and easy to serve that compliments the all-important coffee. You will want to brew the coffee at the very

COME AS YOU ARE
"Come as you are" parties is fun, especially when a host of congenial old friends are on the guest list. Think of some of the "get-ups" that will come to light as you unexpectedly round up your friends in your car at about 9:30 a.m. You will have a hilarious time if you let your best friend in on the secret to lend a bit of moral support.
Your prospective guests are just as near as your phone as well, and a series of calls will produce almost the same results, although will allow time for a wee bit of grooming.
For a more dignified affair, invitations can be sent out well ahead of time to include three or four intimate friends or as large cake fresh from the bakery? Cinnamon toast made right at the table? Hot rolls and home-made jam? Thin slices of your favorite quick bread followed by not so sweet cookies or bars? The choice is endless so long as it includes something simple and easy to serve that compliments the all-important coffee. You will want to brew the coffee at the very last minute—lots more than you think you will need—and serve it with real cream.
The crumb type of coffee cake is one of my favorites for an occasion of this sort because it is such an uncomplicated yet satisfying confection to make at home and its aroma of nutmeg and cinnamon is mouth-watering as well Best served piping hot.

2 teaspoons baking powder
1¼ teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons shortening

Topping:
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon of butter or margarine
Blend well with fork or fingers until fine crumbs are formed. Spread over the batter and bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes. Serves six to eight.
