Marlin was hit by the disease in the summer of 1948. However, as a result of the treatment he received in the hospital and the exercises and bath treatments administered at home by his mother, Marlin is now in good physical condition—good enough to play fotoball with his neighborhood friends. Melvin Foxworth, Marlin's father, said: "I've worked on the March of Dimes drives for several years. But it wasn't until my own son was hit by the disease that I realized the full significance of the Foundation's program. They helped us and offered us encouragement throughout our most worried period." A March of Dimes "Three-Alarm Ball" will be held Jan. 25 at the Balboa Bay club, with proceeds to be used in the fight against polio. LIGHT BRIGADE which will here and across the nation right of Jan. 31, will be used help the Foundation produce life-saving vaccine. Half of proceeds will remain in Orchard County for use in the county's home-care plan and other services. The chapter's home-plan is known in many parts United States now as the Edge County Plan. WASHINGTON (AP)—A bill that would ban broadcasting of whisky advertising over radio and television—but not beer or wine—is before Congress. WASHINGTON (AP)—Considerable doubt has arisen whether Congress would even go through the formality of holding hearings on President Truman's request for another five billion dollars in taxes. On the ocean bottoms are more than 400,000 miles of international communication cables. OPEN HOUSE JANUARY 20 A COMIN'—Two pert lasses from Northrop Aircraft's Anaheim Division are happy about the whole thing as they put the final okay on a sign announcing the Division's Jan. 20 Open House. Bernice Kimberlin, 7431 E. Nintn st., Buena Park, right, of the members of the plant's personnel department, holds sign while Rosie Jordan, 702 S. Emily st., Anaheim, a security department employee, shows her approval. Final plans have been made for the public opening celebration from 1 to 5 on the 20th at the Anaheim Division's big factory at 500 E. Ingethorpe ave. Precision fire control instruments are being manufactured in the 500x500 foot building for the Army Ordnance Corps for use in tanks. Pecan Growers Cite High Tree Return Worried about the cost of rising taxes? Well, here's a way for the average homeowner to write off part of his tax costs. Simply plant two or three pecan trees and in a few years they will provide enough marketable pecans to pay taxes on the average small home. And, if you have room for more trees, the pecan crop will be ready just in time to give extra money for Christmas spending. It's a sort of combination tax and Christmas savings plan, according to Stahmann Farms, located near here in the fertile Rio Grande Valley and home of the world's largest pecan grove. A pecan tree will begin producing in about three years and will produce heavier crops as the years go by. Pecans are commodity that is in strong demand. The crop is more easily grown, harvested, stored and shipped than fruit. The trees are hardy against extremes in temperature and resistant to breakage by icing. They are more drought-resistant than the popular Green Ash. And they are not subject to any serious diseases. For Health, Eat California Fruit! SCHULTZ TOOL & MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO.
