RIGGING UP—Tons of machinery were moved onto the Patt st. drill site of Steele Petroleum Co.'s Anaheim Industrial No. 1 test well yesterday as oil workers "rigged up" the well for drilling, which is expected to begin next week. The mobile crane at right is preparing to lift the heavy drilling unit and place it on the floor of the derrick. In the left background two heavy diesel power units which will operate drilling equipment.—(Gazette photo Kreidt)

car.
Lt. Tommy Taylor of the Anaheim police department, who had taken part in the county wide roundup of narcotic cases, which included the three Orange youths, testified for the prosecution.
The youths vigorously denied knowledge of the marijuana. Testifying against them were their two companions, Gerald Crawford, now serving in the Chino Men's institution and William Frank Henderson, sailor, who has been in the Navy brig at San Francisco. Both turned state's evidence and were not prosecuted.
The jury's verdict on both counts was returned last night shortly after nine.
BRIEFLY NOTED—Elbert Duran, a part-time watchmaker who is a member of the Kwikset team, recently bought himself a new home in Fullerton. The Anaheimer ran into trouble with planners who object to him repairing watches in his newly acquired residence. Ralph McCallen wanted to establish a used car lot on the Spadra road "shoot string strip," but he's got to wait until the Fullerton planners re-zone it. Lenora Pabreckel who works for the telephone people could tell you that Fullerton got dial phones Sunday and the customers will have to dial LAmbert 5. Although Robert Rossberg hasn't given us the word, Anaheimers, too, will be dialing a prefix before the extended service goes into effect in four years. That's for sure. They tell us that Herman Schacht is one of the hardest working men in the Bell System service.

water that they had helped purchase from the Colorado river, and then sell it to them. But when they learned that the Dylee application had been cut down to merely the tract it already serves, they withdrew their protests. However, they did so with the reservation that the public utilities commission should not permit later expansion of the water company territory, without a public hearing.
Engineer Loren Blakeley of Santa Ana attended the hearing on behalf of the Orange County Water Service Co., located at Eucid and Cerrites avenue. He did not protest the franchise.
Dian Gardner, in representing the Farm Bureau position at the hearing, pointed out that domestic water rights are subsequent to the rights of agriculture to underground water, and where there is an underground shortage it is the duty of domestic water companies to "reach" for water; that is, import it from the Colorado river in this case.
"Nobody," said Gardner, "wants a lawsuit. We would all prefer to work together. All officials of state and county should keep in mind that water is our common need and we should use all the Colorado river water possible."

ENSE PLANT — Daystrom apparently had difficulty in a defense contract for its Anaheim plant. A prominent trialist inferred that defense acts aren't as plentiful as imagined they would be. He will be a lot of displaced people before this thing is with, he said.
STATISTIC—According to figures released by the California Horse Racing Board, 36,542 people attended the Frank Vessah' Los Alamitos Quarter Hoss track, be $1,568,185 of which $65,559.43 went to the state and $153,138.85 was track revenue.
