1952 Professional Season Starts at OCAC Ring Tonight with Title Bout The Orange County Athletic club embarks on its 1952 professional wrestling season tonight with a rematch of one of the standout ring battles of the past year—a rematch of a torrid split fall, hour draw between Jim (Black Panther) Mitchell and Baron Leone, acclaimed world heavyweight champion by state athletic commissioners of California. Champion Leone's title and belt will be at stake only if the head-battering grappler from Toledo, O., succeeds in scoring two falls in the "center of the ring" as they term "clean-cut" falls in the trade. Should the Baron lose via disqualifications, or lose a fall because of roughness, the belt will not change hands. The acrimonious Italian, a noted ruffian, who terms himself "the rubbit roffian of them all," injected this condition into the match at the eleventh hour after commissioners this past Sunday met in special session and ruled that "wrestling rough stuff bordering on illegal holds must stop." Baron's knee stomp to the neck probably will be barred, and he fears even his neck-breaker might be ruled illegal. The "Panther's" billy-goat headbutt did not come in too special distavor, so going into the scrambble tonight, the Panther and not the champion, holds the advantage, experts believe. First bout of the four-event card, Ali Pasha vs. Chick Garibaldi is to get under way at 8:30. Krippler Ka-1 Davis meets George Dusette, clever but rather small at 200 pounds for the powerful 250 pound Davis and Lone Eagle, the Indian brave makes his debut in the three-fall semi against 240 pound Masked Terror. No other Sunset league has won many league championships in basketball as the Oilers and as a part of their pre-league win-loss record (9-0) they rate the nod to in the winning tradition set by many years ago by a hot-shot basketball player named Clare Van Hoorebeke. Head cage coach at Huntington Beach, Lee Mosteller, has one of the tallest teams ever seen in these parts for a long time and that is certainly going to be a definite advantage tonight over the smaller Colonist players. Of the starting team two of the players are 6'4" and over, while four of them are at least six feet tall. Forwards Charles Hasley 6' and Ronnie Dulin, 5'10" are the shortest of the team or at least of the first unit. Center is Wayne Young, 6'4½" while the guards are filled by two more tall giants—Bob Suess, 6'2½" and Dick Stricklin, 6'4". All but Suess and Young are up from their fine Bee outfit. This Oilers team has rolled up ten straight victories for a point total of 512 for an average of 51.1 points per contest. They have held their opposition to a point output of 376 for an average of 37.6. Anaheim has totaled 503 points in 11 games for a 45.7 average while limiting their enemy to 407 points and a 37.0 point average per game. The Oilers won their own basketball tourney late last year coming from behind to edge out a strong Bell Gardens five, 41-35, the same Bell Gardens team to beat the locals in the semi-finals 49-42. In the two other games with common opponents, Excelsior and Newport, Huntington has the edge in points—beating the Pilots 57-46 in their first game of the year while Anaheim edged the Green and White clad team by three points. Anaheim beat the Sailors by one while the Oilers beat them of 40.0 against the Saints. The winner of the contest night will definitely be favorite capture the first round championship and end up at least one for the final standings. Teams are now tied, but an overnight someone will fall. A definition of "expense money" depends upon the individual player's prestige and the importance of the tournament in which he competes. Actually, the USLTA's yearbook says the travelling and/or living expenses "... shall, in no case exceed $1200 per day per player, exclusive of airplane, railroad and Pullman fares." Proper expenses may include single room with baths, three meals per day, laundry and similar incidental personal expenses for the duration of the tournament and one additional day. Outstanding tournaments are held each year throughout the country, such as the tourney now in progress in Long Beach which is an open affair for all interested. Sunday the semi-finals get under way with Mary Flynn of Anaheim going against the defending champ of the tourney, Bessie Peabody, who has had years of experience over the local youth. Mary is a regular Class Cee league player, but entered the open division and so far has been playing on par with the older and more experienced players. She goes into action Sunday on the Long Beach City College courts. They were held to 31 by St. Anthony's although they held the Long Beach team at 26 points. Bob Suess topped the Oiler scoring with 11 while pivotman Young scored nine. High for Anaheim in the Santa Ana game was Ames with 19 while Ira Webber scored 12. The game will start at 1:30 in the giant Los Angeles Coliseum with Shipkey's teammates being favored to win their second pro bowl game over Jumbo Joe Stydahar's squad. Most of the local fans were pulling for the Los Angeles Rams to win their third straight loop crown and they took it pretty hard when the Rams fell to the Detroit Lions two weeks before the league's end. But they were all smiles the next week when the Rams were on top of the final league standings with the right to meet the world champions, the Cleveland Browns, for the title. The Rams won and almost everyone was happy in these parts. But now local ace Shipkey will be playing against the Rams and from the record Shipkey is just the boy that could break up the game and hand the National team, including the Rams, a stunning defeat. Just this week the ex-Anaheim high star track and footballer was selected on the Associated Press' All-Professional Football team as a defensive halfback for his outstanding work with Pittsburgh Steelers. the league titles in, not only, football, but in basketball, swimming, baseball and possibly in track. The way it looks now, the Browns will only win the baseball title, but they will have to get by John Wallin's top notch outfit to grab the crown. They are picked in many quarters to twin, the Pomona tourney and the CIF championships, but many felt that way about their football team this past year. Anaheim's Tennis club needs a sponsor to help it along. It is a club not only for growing youth, but for the older set as well. It is rumored that money will be arriving soon for lights on the city park tennis courts. With the lighted courts, a tennis club with loads of outstanding players full of energy, and no sponsor, it will make the whole picture look a little out of place. Just this week the ex-Anaheim high star track and football team was selected on the Associated Press' All-Professional Football team as a defensive halfback for his outstanding work with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although the Steelers weren't in contention for the title Shipkey helped to keep them in the thick of the fight during each contest. He was the only Steeler to make the honored position on the all-pro team. In early September of 1951 several different fans were picking the Fullerton high team to win points. They could go way overboard and score many more if Pat Roberts would get a normal hot streak and George Bishop and Paul Salazar would start passing and dribbling at the right time instead of the wrong moment. The Colonist Bee team certainly has the potential to capture the league title again, but after viewing their past few games, it now seems rather remote. Announcing THE OPENING OF OFFICES at 619 N.
