Anaheim Optimist Club Reviews Past Year, But Eyes Future Programs
Anaheim Optimists in their regular Thursday evening meeting held at Mother's Kitchen briefly reviewed the past year's events and enthusiastically discussed achievements yet to be realized as committee chairmen made their first of the year reports.
Last year's boys work included the organization of a Cub Scout Pack at Thomas Jefferson School under the leadership of Optimist Scoutmaster Roy Kirk. The Optimist sponsored "Free Throw" tourney played throughout the Christmas holidays is slated to wind up Jan. 8, according to boys' athletic chairman Marvin Mason.
Other youth activities carried out under the leadership of Louis Larson, boys work chairman, include the Knot Hole Gang, Soap Box Derby, playground baseball, Optimist Baseball League, deserving youth sent to camp, the Optimist Boys Home, Optimist oratorical contest and the Optimist school safety campaign.
Anticipating the final completion of the Optimist Boys clubhouse, this year's expanding program promises to include a new Boy Scout troop, art and craft classes, a Junior Optimist Club and an around the clock schedule of supervised clubhouse activity
Dr. Brock Robert, chairman of the Optimist local school trust safety campaign known as "The Brake Is Their Break" report widespread interest by OptiClubs as far south as San Diego and predicts that the program spread throughout Orange and San Diego counties. Sven Berg, in charge of painting tion signs in crosswalks, will ganize a paint crew to renew signs as soon as fair weather forecast.
First on this year's agenda already in full swing is the Omnist's membership drive. De- worked out by membership ch- man Dr. C. O. ON THE TARGET
EAST LANSING, Mich. (P)—He's not playing cupid. That bow and arrow Hugh MacMaster, Michigan State's basketball center, carries around is part of his hobby. He's an ardent archer. Spartan coach Pete Newell credits MacMaster's strong basketball hands to his archery exercises.
A graduate of Fullerton high school and a former student of University of Southern California, Christensen arrived in Japan in early December of this year.
