Methodist Youth Enjoy Variegated New Year's Eve
Nearly fifty young people of the White Temple Methodist Youth Fellowship enjoyed a varied New Year's Eve party planned by chairmen Gordon Schwaeofer and Myrna Lewellyn.
Events began at 6:30 p.m. with a progressive dinner, that took them in groups of 15 each to the homes of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Lewelyyn, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lenz, and Rev. and Mrs. Frank Butterworth. The hostesses were assisted by Mrs. Mackey Lyons, Mrs. Walter Herman, Mrs. Harold Freeman and Mrs. Langford Wicker.
Returning to Wesley Hall at the church, New Year party games were enjoyed until the entire group caught up with each other. The 1940 Academy Award film, "Our Town," was then screened, after which another "stretch" of recreation was enjoyed. A midnight candlelight devotional service in the sanctuary took for its theme, "A Growth Chart for '52." Returning then to Wesley Hall, the group greeted the new year noisily, and after a period of fellowship singing partook of a buffet supper, prepared by Dorothy Harryman, Sally Taylor and Mary Lou Love. A fellowship circle climaxed the evening at 1 a.m.
Those attending were: Joe Dougherty, Judy Belle Wicker, Dick Gray, John Brooks, Don Hillary, Harold Freeman, Jr., Shelly
County Recorder Records Record Recording Year
The county recorder's office during 1951 recorded 64,297 documents, more than ever before, because there was an increase in free recordings, the fees collected were below the 1950 total about $2500, the 1951 fees aggregating $147,917.60.
The two years, 1950 and 1951 far outstripped any previous year in volume of business handled by the county office, according Recorder Ruby McFarland. Fifteen years ago, the 1946 fee total was $93,123.
"Little David," perhaps the largest gun ever built, was a 3-inch siege mortar designed by U.S. Army to help break through Germany's Siegfried Line World War II.
