approval of a six-acre subdivision north of Sycamore street adjoining the City of Anaheim.
The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. will spend $2.5 million for equipment in Orange county, District Manager J. E. Kenney announced. The State recently ordered the company to have extended service for its Orange county subscribers by 1955.
Stan Whieldon was unanimously elected president of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce. He succeeds Adolf Schoepe, the Gazette's choice for the Anaheimer of the year. Dr. John D. Bail, prominent Santa Ana physician, died of a heart condition at the age off 55.
POW LIST—Two Anaheimers —S/Sgt. Kenneth J. Vanderford and Cpl. Manuel G. Morino—were among the 11 orange county men named as prisoners of reds.
TRAFFIC—The nation's traffic death toll is now over a million in the 51-year history of the automobile. Orange county listed its 119th fatality of the year when Daniel O'Leary, 62, died of injuries sustained when knocked from his bicycle by a car driven by a Santa Ana woman.
PUBLIC HEALTH—An increase of nearly 600 more cases of communicable diseases in Orange county was reported by Dr. Edward Lee Russell. The large increase was due largely to a mild epidemic of red measles. There have been 61 poliomyelitis cases compared to 55 in 1950.
RELIGION—Anaheim and Orange county churches held special Christmas services yesterday. Many Anaheim churches will hold special Christmas Eve worship tonight.
COURTOPIX—Huntington Beach Pier, contrary to rumors, has not been closed to the public after a jury awarded $358,000 judgment to Richard Ferris, 19-year-old youth who was injured when he dove off the pier into shallow water. Seal Beach's "Sheet Metal Monte Carlo" is being sued by H. Zeigler to foreclose a mortgage. Kenneth E.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaya (UP)
—Boy Scouts from the Federation of Malaya will take part in the Scout Jamboree at Ceylon next February during the scheduled visit of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh to Ceylon.
The executive committee of the Federation's Scout Council has announced its acceptance of an invitation from Ceylon to send a patrol of eight Scouts to the jamboree.

COURTOPIX — Huntington Beach Pier, contrary to rumors, has not been closed to the public after a jury awarded $358,000 judgment to Richard Ferris, 19-year-old youth who was injured when he dove off the pier into shallow water. Seal Beach's "Sheet Metal Monte Carlo" is being sued by H. Zeigler to foreclose a mortgage. Kenneth E. Morrison will be presiding judge of the Orange county superior court in 1952. Earl Floyd White who recently pleaded guilty to drunk driving in connection with a collision in Santa Ana is being sued by Jennie Rios or Velarde for the loss of an unborn, illegitimate child due to injuries sustained in the accident. Bail of $5000 was set for Ray Collins, 40, who was arraigned before City Judge L. P. Bonnat on charges of biking California banks of more than $10,000.
SPORTSWISE—Jimmy Smith, Fullerton college's coach of 122 champions, has been named to the 1952 United States Olympic wapolo committee. Alex Omalev's jaysee cagers won three and lost two of their northern California barnstorming exhibitions. The local sportscene was comparatively quiet over the holiday recess.
TRANSITION — Statistically, there were four births to Anaheimers, three girls and a boy; one Anaheimer died; and four couples obtained marriage licenses. Milan and Catherine Shields welcomed a son; Richard and Juanita Swan became the parents of a baby daughter. Papa is with a Brea foundry. Benjamin Jiminez is the proud papa of a new daughter. Everett and Inez visit of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh to Ceylon.
The executive committee of the Federation's Scout Council has announced its acceptance of an invitation from Ceylon to send a patrol of eight Scouts to the jamboree.
LINGAN, N.S. (UP)—The bodies of two elderly sisters were found last night in their barren seaside cottage: Police said they had lain there "from two days to a week," while their blind, infirm brother groped helplessly about the house.
LONDON (AP)—American nylons which cannot be bought here for any price are being smuggled into Britain inside colored glass ball Christmas decorations, postal officials said today.
WASHINGTON (AP)—President Truman reportedly plans to ask Congress next month to vote a foreign aid program of about the same size it approved this year.
If You Drink! Don't Drive
Broadway also have a new daughter... Death came to Mrs. Lena W. Foster, 75. She had been an Anahelmer for 25 years... Marvin St. John and Grace Ellen Stephens got a marriage license; so did Charles Heavrin and Louis Mae Baert; Richard Rold and Marlys Teske are setting up light housekeeping quarters; and Danny Reyes and Rose Diak prepared to take their vows.
