Teachers Hear Informative Talk
Orange county division of California Retired Teachers association met Nov. 30 in Santa Ana at the community club house, Mr. W. W. Mather of Upland delivered an instructive address on "What Congress Needs to Recover its Prestige." He explained the original purpose of Congress and said that due to the enormous growth through the years, its central power has been delegated to various committees. He suggested limiting the number of members in the House of Representatives and revamping the committee system.
Mr. L. L. Beeman, president of Orange county division, presided at the business meeting and welcomed new members and guests. Among the guests were Linton T. Simmons, Orange county superintendent of schools, Lynn H. Crawford, superintendent of Santa Ana schools and Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Mather of Upland, long time friends of president and Mrs. Beeman.
A delightful musical program was arranged by Mr. Kenneth Orr, musical director of Santa Ana high school who presented the "Debutantes"—eight high school girls who sang several songs that were popular many years ago.
Mrs. Alice M. Grant, financial secretary and Mrs. L. Marguerite Busman, treasurer read the accounts of money received and spent in the interest of the organization.
Miss L. Ora Connell, membership chairman, reported 41 teachers retired this year raising the total in Orange county to 335. Miss Connell announced an afternoon tea to be held at the Teachers Home in Pasadena on the 23rd of December, and extended an invitation to all who are interested and especially to those who have never visited the home.
An invitation was extended to the county division of Retired Teachers to hold the next meet
Laguna Art Director at Junior Ebell
Oswald Leonard Jackson, curator of Laguna Art Museum, discussed "Art and the Theatre" for members of Anaheim Junior Ebell club at the December meeting last night.
The speaker illustrated his talk by showing outstanding "Madonna" on exhibit in the foremost museums of the world. Jackson has been active in Laguna Beach art circles and has served for five terms as president of the Laguna Art Museum. He directed the Pageant of the Masters during 1948 and 1949.
Mel Gauer spoke on the coming school tax election. During the business meeting it was decided to hold the annual benefit March 15. The dinner dance, Dec. 8, will start at 7:30.
Christmas decorations were used in the clubhouse. Pouring were Mrs. Fred Rusch and Mrs. Claude Simpson.
Hawaiian Dances Presented for Stanton Lions
Les Miller, district governor of Lions from Costa Mesa, was honor guest at the Stanton Lions Monday at their clubhouse. He spoke on "Our Responsibility as a Lion to a Lion's club" elucidated the following five points: service to community, fellowship, citizenship, courtesy and attendance.
Other special Lions guests were Edward Cox, deputy district governor from Tustin; Fred Leck, zone chairman from Fullerton and Jack Reynolds, president of the West Long Beach club.

Executive Board Honors Principal
Mrs. Mattie Lou Maxwell, leave of absence from Magnus Elementary School where she been principal for 25 years, with the honored guest Thursday wishing the P-TA executive board meet the home of Mrs. Edmund R. Cochran 8112 E. Starr st. At the conclusion of the business meeting Ms. Maxwell was given a white shirt and a beautiful gold evening gown as a birthday surprise.
Mrs. Milton Taylor was appointed chairman of the spaghetti caterer to be given next Friday night at 7 o'clock at the school.
Birthday cake made by Mr. Homer M. Kirk and Roy Foley and ice cream topped the luck luncheon.
Other members were Mr. Robert Cook, Cora Morris James Allen, Richard S. Yan Frank J. Cushing, Jr., Rich Reynolds, John W. Brooks, Phil Bradley, Cleo G. Mossman, Lawrence C. Martin, James Parsons and Otto Trapp.

H. Ross Crabtree, 6872 Lincoln ave., and his mother, Mrs. Helen Crabtree of Cypress, have motorized to Denver, Colo., for two weeks. They will visit his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crabtree.

Mrs. Charles C. Rube of the Lady Lions was the hostess in charge of the ham dinner.

Mrs. Coalson Morris Elected Head of Republican Women—Captains Named
Newly organized Women's Republican club met yesterday at the YMCA building for the purpose of selecting precinct captains and election of officers.
Temporary chairman, Mrs. Coalson Morris, opened the meeting and introduced Mrs. Leila Baeskens, former chairman of the Republican Central committee of Orange county. Mrs. Baeskens spoke on the number of offices that the Republican party will have in the primaries and discussed the probable candidates. She mentioned that the county board had recommended a study of the Hoover commission reports to be given at each meeting. She also urged adoption of Senate Bill 1149, dealing with re-organization of the Department of Agriculture.
Precinct captains were named.
Local WCTU Hears County President Talk
An early harbinger of Christmas was the WCTU meeting Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Lydia Turner and Mrs. Vona Allen, of E. Broadway.
Decorations were climaxed by the Christmas tree loaded with gaily wrapped jars of fruit for the WCTU Home for the aged at Eagle Rock. 21 members attended the meeting and enjoyed refreshments.
Program was highlighted by an article by Maurice Floyd "They Are Selling Licenses In Your Front Office."
Chairman of the nominating committee was Mrs. Harry Tobin and the following officers were elected: Mrs. Coalson Morris, president; Mrs. H. W. Saulbery, vice-president; Mrs. Claude Slack, secretary and Mrs. Eva Boyd, treasurer.
Next meeting will be held Jan. 7.
Sunshine-Shower Club Has Regular Meeting in Stanton
Mmes. Richard S. Yater and Lewis McBratney were hostesses at the Saturday night, Dec. 1 monthly pot luck of the Sunshine and Shower club. It was a belated Thanksgiving party with turkey and all the fixings, served at banquet tables in their Starr street clubhouse.
Members and their husbands were: Messrs. and Mmes. Elijah Briggs, Conna E. Pollack, Charles Moolick, Charles Freeborn, Lloyd H. Morse and Josh Freeborn, with their granddaughter, Sheril Walker; Mmes. Milton Hasel, Bertha Maloney, Ruth Bennett and Lewis McBratney and "Dick" Yater and small son, Keith.
Special guests were Rev. and Mrs. Charles A. White and their two daughters, Sharon and Alice Marie; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Birmley, William Reese, the Benson brothers, Paul and Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Adams of Santa Ana.

Combining a Christmas and
birthday party, members of St.
Agnes Guild enjoyed a festive
meeting Monday when they gathered at St. Michael's church under the direction of Mrs. Lee Shaw.
Co-hostesses, Mrs. Miles Stangster, Dr. Mona Bettin and Miss Marjorie Pibel arranged a clever game where 20 colored cut-outs from magazines were displayed and manufacturers names guessed.
First prize was won by Mrs. Gordon Hansfield and low by Mrs. William Webb.
Birthdays celebrated included those of Mrs. H. C. Ellis, Mrs. Ralph Emerson, Mrs. G. P. Goodrich and Mrs. Richard Snow.
Mrs. Ellis won the birthday gift.
Rev. Saville's birthday was also observed and he was presented a brief case by the members of the Guild and was accorded the honor of cutting the first slice of birthday cake.
Mrs. George Koch, membership chairman, presented a corsage to new members, Mrs. H. Paul Klueeter and welcomed her into the Guild.
Exchange of gifts concluded the evening. Guests were Mrs. John Evans, Mrs. Ralph Emerson and Mrs. Richard Snow. Next meeting is Jan. 28 at the home of Mrs.
G. P. Goodrich.

Catholic Clubs
Plan County-Wide Music Party
A double-feature Christmas sing, to which members of all Catholic young people's clubs in Orange county are being invited, will be sponsored Dec. 13 and Dec. 23 by the Cavalier club of St. Joachim's parish in Costa Mesa, President Nabiha Anton announced today.
The Dec. 13 party will begin with serving of pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m., in St. Joachim's parish hall, followed by practice of the carol arrangements which the combined clubs will sing at the Cavalier outdoor carol-fest Dec. 23. For the second event, members of the various clubs will meet at 6:30 p.m., at the parish hall, to leave at 7 for singing in the area. They will return to the hall for a Christmas dance and exchange of 50-cent gifts, men bringing gifts for men, women gifts for women.
For the pot luck-practice Dec. 13, women guests are asked to bring a hot dish, salad or dessert, with men bringing rolls, butter or relishes, each to furnish his own table service. Those from parishes where reservation has not been made through the parish club, planning to participate on one or both occasions, are asked to phone Beacon 6787-R or write Merry Heisley, 2164 Rural Pl., Costa Mesa.
