OPENING VISITORS—Well-wishers and friends of Anahcim Building and Loan Asen crowded the newly-decorated offices of the association Saturday all afternoon and into the evening as the new quarters were officially opened and warmed. Floral gifts made a riot of color beautifully appointed rooms. Churchgoers Carted Off to Jail When Riot Starts Over Pastor FORT WORTH, Tex. Chinese Reportedly Building Railroad Churchgoers Carted Off to Jail When Riot Starts Over Pastor FORT WORTH, Tex. (P)—Dozens of churchgoers were carted off to the police station yesterday when a riot over ouster of the pastor broke out in the street in front of the Ross Avenue Baptist church. Several church members swapped blows. Not content, the churchgoers broke into heated argument at the police station, Police Lt. Wilford Matlock said. He threatened to place all of them in jail. Matters quieted and all were released. Officers said that technically none of the Baptists had been placed under arrest. Six policemen were required to stop the riot. The trouble began when church members voted to oust the Rev. W. W. Baker as pastor. Baptist congregations, under church practice, elect and oust ministers by congregational vote. When the Rev. Baker arrived today, the Rev. L. T. Adams, Sr., and several other persons refused to allow him to enter the church. That started the fight. The Rev. Adams is a retired pastor of the church. Police Sgt. Thomas A. Hollis reported that the Rev. Baker returned to the church during the day, picked up his personal belongings and a week's salary. He said he had planned to preach his sermon yesterday morning, then resign. The church, which has a white congregation, is not affiliated with the Baptist General Convention (Association), to which the majority of Baptist churches belong. Chinese Reportedly Building Railroad To Soviet Russia HONG KONG (P) — China's communist rulers are said to be hard at work on an unprecedented railriod construction problem in that vast nation's isolated northwest. If completed, the rail lines would give China its first integrated communications network. Authorities here who are familiar with China's transport and communications problems believe reports of the rail-building project are true. But there is sharp disagreement as to whether the network is aimed primarily at internal consolidation and economic development or a military-economic tieup with Soviet Russia. Many observers are frankly dubious about speculation that the communists' rail program is aimed at an eventual tieup with Russia's railroad network in Soviet Central Asia: There are reports that the reds are surveying a projected 1000-mile line from Lanchow to Urumchi in western Sinkiang province. But observers here point out that this would mean laying roadbeds through a trackless desert, then building another 500-mile line into Kazakhstan province and the nearest Russian rail terminus. There is considerable doubt as to whether red China is in a financial position to make the huge expenditures necessary for such a program. Remember Speed Kills! I want a President I Can Respect I want MacArthur I want a President who will not be cowed by Stalin and His Henchmen. I want a President I Can Respect I want MacArthur I want a President who will not be cowed by Stalin and His Henchmen. I want MacArthur I want a President who will surround himself with men of honesty and integrity, men who believe in the American way of life, not with grafters, grifters and fellow travelers. I want MacArthur I want a President who will bring back respect to the grand old U.S.A. all over the world. I want a President who will recognize war as a war and if war MUST be waged, wage that war with full military might to obtain victory, not a war prolonged with appeasement, double talk and needless sacrifice of American lives. I want MacArthur I want a President who recognizes the fact that free labor and free business, not Government subsidies and controls, gave us the highest standard of living on earth. I want MacArthur I don't know where to start to elect Gen. MacArthur to the White House. I think there are many others who believe as I do. Let's get together and do something about it. Send your name and telephone number or address to Box XY, Gazette, Anaheim and we will arrange a meeting Pronto I am a small business man in Anaheim. Hit-Run Driver Kills Dog Some person is apt to get a shock and a jail sentence, just because he ran over a dog. Henry Sandoval, 504 E. Adele st., Anaheim, reported that his dog had been killed by a hit and run driver and he gave police the license number on the car. There are so many animals run over by cars that this story would not be newsworthy except for one fact, that people generally are not aware of committing a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine or a jail sentence, or both, when they hit an animal and neglect to stop, according to Police Chief Mark Stephenson. Persons are rarely punished for this type of accident for two reasons: first the dog's owner must sign a property damage complaint; and secondly, the judge must decide whether the accident was unavoidable or intentional, he said.
