Rambling Ron Knox Now at Santa Monica; Seeks to Play Friday
Santa Monica was all smiles today after hearing about rambling Ronnie Knox who rambled into Santa Monica yesterday and took up residence where he expects to join the Samohi football team this week in their game with Anaheim Friday night at Fullerton.
Knox is reportedly one of the greatest athletes now playing sports in the Southland and would definitely be of help to the undefeated team from the Bay of Smokes, but CIF rules may keep him out of competition with the Vikings until the turn of the semester.
Started In Beverly Hills
Knox started his high school playing career at Beverly Hills, but abandoned the hapless Normans for the greener pastures at Inglewood last year.
While playing for the Sentinels of Inglewood this past grid season Knox led them to eight victories in nine tries—losing only to Santa Monica in the first week of Bay League competition by the score 26-12.
Knox, T-formation quarterback, threw the ball 123 times and completed 73 of the tosses for a grand total of 1440 yards and 16 touchdowns to rank as one of the outstanding feats in the Southland this past season.
Second Team Choice
Compare that with the record of T-quarterback Sandy Lederman of Santa Monica. Lederman has thrown the ball 136 times and completed the throws 76 times for 1228 yards and 21 touchdowns. Lederman was an All-CIF second team choice last year and both boys will rate high consideration this season.
Latest report has it that Knox will not be eligible to play against the Colonists Friday night in the second round of the CIF grid playoffs. Knox will be eligible next season for the Vikings.
If he would be able to play against Anaheim, the rumor has it that Mr. and Mrs. Pennington, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson and Mr. and Mrs. Boswell would move to Anaheim for a week or so and naturally would bring along their football playing sons.
It sounds good anyway, doesn't it.

Scanning Sports
By STAN JONES
Several days ago we heard and saw in print a few remarks from disgruntled individuals in regard to seeing too much football on the sport pages of certain dailies around the country.
Thought that hypercritical remark should be answered in print for all in high dudgeon in regard to too much football on the daily sport pages to view and in their inquietude manner would see fit to view the other side of the picture.
Vexation of spirit certainly must have caused these out blasts to too much sports along the line of football in the papers and not any intelligent thoughts as to why football is the major sport now and as a result receives more news space in the paper.
After thinking over the remarks I heard and saw in this same paper on the editorial pages last week, I immediately thought of the people issuing these remarks and could readily see that it wasn't just football they were lashing out at, but it was just a blind for many other things that has somehow seceded into their distorted minds.
Not Happy with Sport Itself
It could have been a blind for SPORTS itself and how it hiding behind another blind and that could be themselves. For just sitting back and seemingly doing nothing about the now out of hand sports set up. For placing small bets on games or entering into money pools for the big games and for actually attending a game and finally acting like the man next door—in a natural, human, American way.
It all comes back to the example of the average man finding fault with something anything, just to keep busy on the prowl, another Bob Taft, who continually is checking up on the men who run the country.
It's only natural and healthy to find fault. Nothing is perfect and it's good and wonderful to have dissatisfied people. They are the ones who keep the others working for better and better results. They are the majority. Maybe the person next door is one who is never satisfied and maybe and most likely it is YOU.
Here are people complaining about too much football on the sport pages lately, now in the football season. Just how are these people going to feel when the season of baseball arrives.

Leone Wins As Physician Malts Battle
Baron Michele Leone, if any,
probably is more difficult than ever with his personal item of "The Baron" up an-er notch or two.
Last night the Italian came behind to score a somewhat allen victory over Carlos Guzzo before 800 wrestling fans, truly anti-Baron, at the Orange City Athletic Club.
Zuzman, one of the fastest and most grapplers in this section outmaneuvering the California-recognized world champion to the first fall in the time of it, ran into a back shoulder same paper on the editorial pages last week. I immediately thought of the people issuing these remarks and could readily see that it wasn't just football they were lashing out at, but it was just a blind for many other things that has somehow seeped into their distorted minds.
Not Happy with Sport Itself
It could have been a blind for SPORTS itself and how it has completely taken over the country from one end to another. How the name SPORT has become such a popular word. Another reason along this same line would be that SPORT has taken more time in a person's life whether he is a fan or not. There are sports on TV, sport ads, sport pages, sport magazines, sport auditoriums, sport laws and sport events throughout the nation.
Sport has now entered into homes never before interested in any sporting event whatsoever. There are also sport fads, and boosters for big games which occur just about every week. There are parades and rallies through the streets of cities trying to conduct the business of buying and selling, and all this has a definite result on the community.
Another blind that cartain people might throw up to cover up their feelings about too much football in the sports pages during the past few months could be the subject of people.
These individuals under the banner of hypercriticism might have it out for people in general—the people who uphold these sport contests in the country and that continually sanction and sponsor the games such as football, wrestling, boxing and water polo games.
These same people are probably looked on with disgust by these few since they sanction these sporting events and thereby distract these people from attending the "finer" things such as the opera, the drama halls and the many libraries around the country.
Could be Football Itself
Besides the sport itself and people the third blind could be football itself and its evils such as scandals, hard-working, money are the majority. Maybe the person next door is one who is never satisfied and maybe and most likely it is YOU.
Here are people complaining about too much football on the sport pages lately, now in the football season. Just how are these people going to feel when the season of baseball arrives.
In the major leagues baseball is played every day and in the Pacific league about six days a week while on the high school level it is played twice a week.
There are two swimming meets a week and that season runs for several months. Basketball has already started and will continue into March with games being played just about every day on the college or pro level while the high schools only play two per week.
Football has been running across the sport pages from July, with the pros and will continue to Jan. 1 or shortly after. Wait until baseball season arrives which is in March when the players start travelling to the training camps and will run into Oct.

Highly-Rated Signal Callers Perform Friday in Playoffs Between Vikings, Colonists
Slated to perform Friday night in Fullerton's stadium besides the Santa Monica and Anaheim football teams will be two of the top T-quarterbacks in all of Southern California and they are Leonard Kolb and Sandy Lederman.
Kolb is the signal caller for the Anaheim Colonists and although he doesn't have quite as impressive record as Lederman brings with him into the game, Kolb nevertheless is a smooth ball handler and combines that with his trick signal calling to give the locals a top notch performer in the all-important T-slot.
Has Speedy Backs
Kolb, having such speedy backs to work with, doesn't pass too much in a game, only tossing seven or eight a contest, but when he does pass, it usually goes true to its intended receiver, although five defenders have grabbed the ball and ran back the pigskin for valuable yardage.
Kolb has tossed a grand total of 74 passes and completed 33 for a total yardage gain of 446 yards while only five passes were intercepted by the enemy.
Kolb's passing percentage is a nifty .554 compared to Samohi's Lederman who sports a little better, but not much. .559. Lederman has thrown the ball 136 times, completing 76 for a yardage gain of 1228.
Both Terrific Competitors
Lederman is also, like Kolb, considered a trickey signal caller and a good handler of the ball on handoffs. Both are looked at by teammates on the ground where the total yardage gain was 169 compared to Inglewood's total of 94 on the ground and 39 through the foggy air lines.
This is just an example of how Lederman reacts to the elements and uses his brains as well as his leg and arm work. He is hard to out smart. When the defense spreads out, he runs and when they close in, he passes and as the records testify, he has done right well in the use of his plays as his team has never been beaten yet this year.
It Can Be Done
One must not forget what Fullerton, league champs did last year to a team entering the CIF playoff carrying an undefeated mark. San Diego led by the CIF player of the year, big Charlie Powell, end, came into Fullerton and fell for their only defeat of the season.
Fullerton advanced on into the finals and had to beat Loyola to do it, the same Loyola team that beat Santa Monica to earn the right to meet Fullerton in the semifinals.
Tangerine Bowl Officials in NCAA Protest
ORLANDO, Fla. (UP)—A tangerine bowl spokesman today denied NCAA President Hugh C. Willett's statement that sponsors of the local New Year's day football game "missed the deadline" in applying for certification.
"We contacted the NCAA last summer when we first learned that our annual charity game was not on the approved list," said a member of the Tangerine Bowl commission.
"We had several written exchanges which finally resulted in Wilbur C. Johns of UCLA, head of the NCAA special events committee, assuring us that we could go ahead with the game. That came shortly after the first of November. Then, a few days later, we received a letter from Chicago headquarters of the NCAA saying the tangerine bowl could not be put on the approved list.
"We contend the game should have been accepted in the first place since it is a 200 per cent charity affair. Doors should never be closed on such a charity event."
The bowl's profits go to support of the Harryanna Crippled Children's hospital at Umatilla.

Lederman is also, like Kolb, considered a trickey signal caller and a good handler of the ball on handoffs. Both are looked at by their team mates and opponents as terrific competitors and players and both are held in high esteem and are admired for what they are, outstanding football players and leaders of the team.
While Kolb seems content in handling off the ball to his speedy backs, Lederman chooses to run with the ball and he has done just that on numerous occasions and with great success too.
Sandy, 5'11" and weighing 171 pounds, has carried the pall 35 times this season and has picked up a total of 207 yards for a tremendous 5.91 average per carry.
In the first game of the year against Alhambra, he scooted off with the ball seven times and picked up 35 yards. In the following contests he rolled up yardage gains of 13, 17, 40, 16, 51, 13 and 22 respectively. Against tough Inglewood, he legged it for 40 yards.
