Psalm 92 Is Text For Christian Science Tomorrow Christian Science churches here and elsewhere in the United States will hold special Thanksgiving services in their edifices Thursday morning. The First Reader will read the Thanksgiving Day Proclamation issued by the President of the United States or by the Governor of California. This verse from the Psalms will constitute the Golden Text: "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High." (92:1). The Lesson-Sermon, which includes selections from the King James Version of the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, contains these verses from II Corinthians (9:8,11), "God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: . . . Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God." A correlative passage from Science and Health reads, "Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech" (p. 3). Disagreement in Departments Over Size of Deficit WASHINGTON (AP)—Two government departments—Treasury and Commerce—are in sharp disagreement about the probable size of the deficit the government will run up during the year which ends next June 30. The Commerce Department, in an analysis of business trends it made public yesterday, estimated the deficit at $4,000,000,000. Secretary of the Treasury Snyder had predicted it will be about $7,500,000,000. Commerce arrived at its figures on the basis of an estimate from the Senate Finance committee that taxes will bring in about $65,000,000,000. It said the Budget Bureau figures spending will be about $69,000,000,000. The treasury had estimated taxes will produce $2,500,000,000 less and spending will run $1,-000,000,000 more. Price of Bologna, Hot Dogs to Go Up By Monday WASHINGTON (AP)—The p Wage Board Votes Pay Plans for Increased Output WASHINGTON (P)—Over labor members’ objections, public and industry members of the Wage Stabilization board have voted to permit some incentive pay plans, designed to provide added pay for increased output. A freeze on such plans has been in effect since Jan. 25. The board said any new plan, or revision of an old one, which involves a whole plant or industry must be approved by the board. For individual workers or groups of workers, standards were set up yesterday which would require: an earning opportunity of at least 15 per cent above normal rates, a minimum wage guarantee against loss of earnings. No ceiling was placed on the amount of incentive pay which may be paid. Most labor unions have traditionally opposed incentive pay plans on the ground they may involve a speed-up or work without adequate additional pay. Conferences have been held between Gov. Thomas E. Dewey and New Jersey Gov. Alfred E. Driscoll on launching the first concerted two-state cleanup along the piers. Dewey ordered the New York state crime commission last night to make a “sweeping investigation” on a port-wide basis. Dewey said he wanted to root out “racketeering, organized crime and restrictive practices which have increasingly over the past 50 years hamstrung the port of New York.” Police Chief of Washington Up For Retirement WASHINGTON (P) — Washington’s police chief, Maj. Robert J. Barrett, was recommended for retirement yesterday by a medical board. Acceptance of the recommendation by the District of Columbia commissioners, the city’s governing body, was regarded as a certainty. Barrett is 49 years old. Barrett, who was found physically unfit for police duty, has led an unsuccessful effort to obtain a court order against a financial questionnaire being circulated among many city policemen by a Senate District Crime subcommittee. Two hours before the medical board report, Barrett had filed his questionnaire. It listed his net worth as $60,550.35, most of it real estate he said he had inherited. The questionnaire, being circulated by a Senate subcommittee inquiring into possible police ties with gamblers, contains 1750 questions. Barrett contended it invaded policemen's privacy. brated at St. Michael’s, however, Price of Bologna, Hot Dogs to Go Up By Monday WASHINGTON (P)—The price of hot dogs, bologna and pork sausage will go up so where around two cents a pound containing beef—hot and bologna for example—will revised to pass on to process higher material costs. McGhee is reported under consideration as ambassador to Turkey. He now is in charge of Near East, South Asian and African affairs for the department. This was disclosed yesterday in the wake of President Truman's disclosure that George F. Kennan, former member of Secretary Acheson's policy planning board who is now on leave, is being considered for appointment as envoy to Russia. Ambassador Alan G. Kirk is reportedly anxious to retire. McGhee, if he were named to the Ankara post, would succeed a veteran career diplomat, George Wadsworth, said by officials as probably in line for a European post. The change was said to be under study because of the new phase in U.S.-Turkish relations to be opened by Turkey's admission to the North Atlantic treaty. Edwin H. Pflog, and appropriate music by Zion Senior choir. Rev. Pflog will speak on "The World's First Thanksgiving and Its Counterpart," upon the basis of Genesis 4:3-5. "More than ever America's future depends upon its citizens reaction to the bounties in every department of human life with which the Heavenly Father has showered our nation, since President Lincoln issued the first Thanksgiving Day Proclamation in 1863," says Rev. Pflog. "To accept the physical blessings and reject or ignore the spiritual riches of the Almighty through Jesus, His Son, can only spell ruin for our nation as history so convincingly teaches. This truth is also clearly shown in the world's first Thanksgiving as recorded in the Bible." "It is our prayer at Zion that America wake up to its real need and countless numbers return thanks unto God by a living faith, a willing obedience, and generous sacrifices. We cordially invite our fellow-Americans to worship and return thanks with us." The Zion Senior choir, under the direction of Mrs. Walter Kem- TELEVISION Wednesday, Nov. 21 5:00 P.M.
