The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.—Prov. 4:18.
CALIFORNIANA — American forces under Capt. Charles Burroughs, of Fremont's California Battalion, and Californianos under Commandante Manuel Castro, engaged in a battle, Nov. 16, 1846, at Natividad. Four or five Americans were killed and the same number were wounded. It was an American victory (though the Californians lost as many men).
GRIPES—Nick La Porta fairly sizzled 'tother evening when he read t'column. He doesn't like the personal mention of certain folks ... But who is more newsworthy than Erale Moeller? Hmm-mm-m? Why, he's started a project that would re-route the truck traffic on Orangethorpe instead of Center street ... Tommy Fallin ain't complainin'. When the big gear from Ellay visited the Fullerton airport yesterday, things were humming. Y'betcha'... According to the newsroom.
Earl Warren in Hospital But Speech Broadcast
SAN FRANCISCO (P) — Gov. Earl Warren enters a hospital today, but his kickoff bid for the Republican presidential nomination will be broadcast as scheduled tonight.
He is to get a checkup at University of California hospital here for an intestinal allment. He told a press conference in Sacramento yesterday it has bothered him three weeks.
His speech, already transcribed, will be broadcast from Hollywood to the GOP State Central committee in San Diego—as well as to a nationwide audience over the ABC network. It is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (11:30 p.m. EST).
Warren said several members of his family recently suffered from a similar allment, but only his persisted.
Dr. Junius Harris, his physician, said the governor might be hospitalized several days."
"Is your doctor in favor of public health insurance?" asked a reporter.
"I hope he isn't too much opposed to it," smiled Warren, who three times has failed to get the state assembly to vote prepaid public health bills.

read t'column. He doesn't like the personal mention of certain folks ... But who is more newsworthy than Ernie Moeller? Hmm-mm-m? Why, he's started a project that would re-route the truck traffic on Orangethorpe instead of Center street ... Tommy Fallin ain't complainin'. When the big gear from Ellay visited the Fullerton airport yesterday, things were humming. Y'betcha' ... According to the grapevine, Anaheim's stampless bookie, is still operating. His hat is his office.
IMPROVING — Salome Ariaz, the personable cabbie, is on the mend. But with those compound fractures of the compound fractures, it is doubtful if he'll regain full use of his legs.
LINES-O-TYPE — Don Brunskill, the jaysee instructor, turned out to be a cameraman. He is giving interesting lectures on his trip to Baja California ... It's confusing. When they said John Bailey was killed in an auto mishap, Anaheimers began to wonder whether it was the John Bailey they knew. Fortunately it wasn't. But there's a John Bailey who is a carpenter. Then there is a John H. Bailey, an outstanding mechanic and a John M. Bailey who's refired and taking things easy ... It wasn't news to Joe Leib, Jr., that Earl Warren became presidential timber. But, Ray Davis, as shrewd an observer of the political scene as you'd meet anywhere, will tell you that the rank and file GOPpolitician prefers Ike Elsenhower ... Remember when the Late Jim Heffron was a candidate for Sam Collins' post and when the late Gov. Loudon aspired to be a Congressman?
PEOPLE — Clare Van Hoorebeke, the Anahi coach, won the praises of Orange county football fans by his quick-thinking. He quelled a possible junior sized riot during the fracus in the Fulllerton-Anaheim game by keeping live.

his men in check. The Anahi mentor is a true sportsman who believes and practices good sportsmanship. Anaheim is indeed, fortunate to have such a man to lead its hi school footballers ... Kendall Yorba, the Anaheim Union Water company zanjero, was quite a ball player in his day. J. F. Lemon and Otto Brandle who played ball with and against him, have newspaper clippings, yellowed by years, that show that 'the son of the Dons' had what it takes ... This diamond trio played ball at the old fair grounds—101 highway at Placentia ave.—25 years ago. Art Sullivan, who was (and is) a big man in Brea, will tell you that nobody cared to follow the Orange county team then. One afternoon Eddie West and Jim Heffron, newspapers' were the only 'customers' in the stands. And they got in on passes ... Jannett Isbell, 17-year-old jaysee co-ed, was injured while crossing the street near the Fullerton campus ... And congratulations to Helen Oviedo for being chosen Anahi's homecoming queen.

Lost Key Service Inaugurated by Local Locksmith
Announcement of the inauguration of a new lost key service was made today by B. L. Jeffers owner of the Anaheim Lock & Key service at 548 S. Los Angeles st.
Jeffers stated that through this service, anyone can receive free a numbered registration tag for their present key ring. This is registered by number in a confidential file at the lock and key shop. Through this service, the finder of lost keys has full instructions for returning the keys to the owner.
Jeffers states that this system has been in successful operation in other parts of the country for some time. In New York City alone, it has resulted in the return of 81 per cent of lost keys. Jeffers believes this is the first offering of the lost key service on the west coast.
The new shop opened recently by Jeffers is the culmination of many years' experience in the lock and key business. His motto is "A key for every lock."

In fact, the pilot was "revving" his motors when Sandar knocked on the door of his cabin. She asked him if she needed a ficket.
Sandra was escorted to a nearby police station, where she told her interrogators that yesterday seemed like a good day for flying—so she flew.
Police wired Sandra's father, Joseph, and placed the youngster in a children's society shelter home for the night.
When she took off—by ordinary land vehicle — for the shelter, Sandar still was carrying her schoolbooks, carefully wrapped in brown paper.
She had intended to do some studying while flying to California, she said.

County Lashed by 60 MPH Wind
Hard winds descended upon Orange county from the eastern deserts at about 3 a.m. today and were blowing at velocities ranging up to 60 miles per hour according to reports from State Forestry lookouts in the more exposed sections.
Hillman Peak lookout near Yorba Linda reported gusts roaring at 60 mph. At Bolero Peak lookout near Modjeska's, velocities of the wind were as high as 50 mph.
No serious damage was reported from the wind. Some loss of loose top soil occurred in the bean growing areas where fall plowing has been under way. Forestry officials noted the increased fire hazard in the hills from the dry wind.

Cancer
(Continued from Page 1)
As in skin and lip cancers, month malignancies usually are successfully eradicated in their early stages with treatment either by surgery or irradiation. The chief hazard lies, however, in the spread of these cancers to the lymph nodes of the neck, the surgeon pointed out. Statistically, about 80 per cent of cancers of the tongue are cured if there is no spread to the neck, but only 25 per cent are cured after the neck nodes are involved, he stated.
Evidence of progress in surgical procedures attacking cancer was
Cops Unhospitable To Insistent Local Would-be-Inmate
He just had to say no:
That is, Police Lt. Roger Shaw man just had to say no yesterday when a local — loco? — pleaded with Sherman (to lock him up).
The determined man please with the lieutenant to lock him up, saying that county office were on the way now to pick him up. He didn't know the charge.
Uoon the lieutenant's refusal to lock him up, the man then questioned that the police impound his car. Again the lieutenant fused.
Still undaunted, the man called DuBois and Paschall garrison and asked them to keep the car for him. Following this line action he left the station, informing lieutenant Sherman that he was going to Kit Kat cafe for cup of coffee and that the county officers could pick him up when they arrived.
The county officers never shod up.

Labor Members of Parliament Ask Fighting to Stop
LONDON (UK) — Eleven labor members of Parliament asked Winston Churchill’s government today to try to stop the fighting in Korea.
The request was made in the form of a motion tabled in the House of Commons. The motion also asked for:
1. Red China’s admission to the United Nations.
2. Free elections to unify Germany.
3. Calling of a disarmament conference.
The motion was signed by left-winger Sydney Silverman and ten laborite backbenchers.
There was no indication when the motion would be brought to a vote.
Prime Minister Winston Churchill yesterday refused to consider a request from labor member C. A. Wilcock that he ask that Commonwealth troops in Korea be used only for defensive purposes during the cease-fire talks.
School Teachers From Berkeley Win Nobel Prize
BERKELEY (AP)—Two Nobel Prize winning University of California scientists have no idea how they’ll spend their prize money, $16,000 each.
“The only plan I have is not to spend it all in one place,” said Dr. Edward M. McMillan.
“I haven’t asked my wife yet,” said Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg, chemist.
Notification of the awards touched off a most unscientific celebration by surgery or irradiation.
Evidence of progress in surgical procedures attacking cancer was given by Dr. MacDonald when he discussed a comparatively new radical operation. During the last few years, certain mouth cancers have been managed in a single surgical attack which combines removal of the nodes in the neck with excision of the primary growth in the mouth.
“By this procedure,” Dr. MacDonald said, “many patients formerly considered untreatable have been successfully managed and many of them cured. Safeguards have been developed which now make this operation possible with a very low mortality of around five per cent.”
Dr. MacDonald’s talk, entitled “Management of Common Forms of Head and Neck Cancer,” was followed by a sound motion picture: “What Is Cancer?” presented by the Orange County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
