The f.o.b. average was fractionally higher as prices held firm on medium to larger sizes but somewhat easier on the small valencias. In the face of increasing arrivals of Florida oranges, there was a marked resistance to poor quality and weak condition California valencias. The Orange Administrative committee set the prorate for the week ending Nov. 10 at 800 cars of Southern California valencias, identical to that of this week. In addition, the committee recommended the movement of 20 cars of Central California navel and miscellaneous oranges to qualified shippers having early maturity fruit. This light movement marks the initial shipment of the 1951-52 California navel crop, volume distribution of which is not expected until after the middle of November. Florida estimates the shipment of 1,500 cars of oranges next week, an increase of 500 cars over the estimate of this week.
