Colonists Encounter Oilers in Top Game of Grid Season at Huntington Tonight, 7:30
By STAN JONES
Storm Warnings have been set up along the northern coast of California due to the terrific wind and rains which came over the state in such a surprise these past few days, but the weatherman got to creet his all-out dangerous flag for one of the cities situated along the coast of Southern California.
He probably didn't look long or hard enough into his crystal ball in the direction of Huntington Beach because if he would have, all travelers would most likely be warned about passing near through Huntington Beach tonight as a result of the terrific storm which is scheduled to take place on the high school field at 7:30 and thereafter.
The program has listed a football game between the Huntington Beach Oilers and the Anaheim Colonials in the second game of the 1951 league season, but from all indications it should produce such a slam-bang affair that it will be heard all over the league.
—from Newport to Fullerton and back through Orange and Santa Ana.
Make-or-Break Game.
Tonight's game just isn't another game, as games go, week after week, but it is a game that will either make or break the fighters and will send one into oblivion and the other on the road to success.
Although the Oilers lost their first league game of the year last week to Fullerton (48-20), they nevertheless are out for the runner-up position which they will consider quite an improvement over their last place position of last year and the year before.
They are almost a changed team from their past two years, at least by all pre-league indications. They went through their first four games this year undefeated, then fell behind fully.
Haven't Won Since 1948
The Oilers just can't be traced too lightly this season, although they haven't won a league title for so long they really don't member themselves when they beat a league team. All any remembers is that it was back the year of 1948 when they held power over a league foot.
They haven't won a league since 1946, but that is later than the Anaheim year of 1943 when they tied with Santa Ana. Excelsior. The last time the loss won a league title was a glorious period when they so leagues record for winning the fifth three years in a row. In 1940 and 1941, Newport ended streak in 1942.
Last week the Anaheim var team rolled over Santa Ana (2) and they looked very good in history, which really isn't too good.
Davis Cup Team Works Out in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS (UP)—The nucleus of America's 1951 Davis Cup Tennis Team assembles here today for preliminary training.
A good guess is that when it leaves for Australia next week the old warhorse of international play, Ted Schroeder, will be along.
Deek Savitt, Tony Trabert and Victor Seixas are to arrive with non-playing Capt. Frank Shields. Budge Patty is reported in France and Hamilton Riehardson is in Japan.
Budge supposedly will not be back, and another member, Billy Talbert, has been excused at his own request.
That's where 29-year-old Schroeder comes in. Schroeder, of La Crescenta, still is noncommittal about making the trip to Australia. He was counted on to play in tuneup matches with Trabert, Savitt and Seixas.

The game starts tonight at on the Oilers field and promises to be the top game of the year the locals, and for that man Huntington Beach. They have crowds flocking to their game and a defeat tonight by Anaheim would just about finish the O and their supporters.
Whittier Poets Seek First Loop
Win over Cal Te
LOS ANGELES (UP)—South California conference football this week end features a lot of league games. The University of Redlands plays host tomorrow on homecoming day to mona college. Title-bent Tech plays the defending chions, Whittler, in Pasadee Rose Bowl tonight.
An underdog Occidental eleaves north to play a non-reference game with Fresno St. The trip to Fresno is significant for Oxy, for it was there the school's greatest team defeated Colorado A & M in the Ra Bowl in 1949.
Cal Tech, playing its only game of the season, can stay the title race with a victory of Whittier's poets. Whittier not won a game in four starts.

Ticket Tax Now Dropped
WASHINGTON UP—The 20 per cent federal tax on tickets to high school athletic contests goes off next Thursday but the tax still applies to college games.
Elimination of the levy on high school games was one of the relatively few tax reductions or removals in the $56,691,000,000 tax increase bill signed by President Truman Saturday.
It applies specifically to elementary and secondary (high) schools and then only if "the proceeds more exclusively to the benefit" of these institutions. Aldes of the joint congressional committee on taxation said virtually all high school games would meet the condition.
A Treasury Department spokesman said the date a ticket was sold will determine whether a tax has to be paid. If the ticket was bought before Nov. 1, even though the game is played after that date, a tax is due on it.

LA Rams in Back-to-Back Fight with SF
SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—The Los Angeles Rams meet the San Francisco 49ers in Kezar Stadium here Sunday, and Ram coaches admit the local team might be hard to beat.
In figuring out their campaign for the divisional championship, the Rams' board of strategy decided the Rams might drop three games this year.
Coach Joe Stydahar and his aides foresaw a defeat by the Cleveland Browns, which happened, and either the Chicago Bears or the Detroit Lions, plus the 49ers.
Regarding the 49ers the Rams, based their belief on the vast improvement of the San Francisco team, and the "back-to-back" scheduling.
If the Rams win this Sunday, then next Sunday at the Los Angeles Coliseum they would be in a let-down mood, and the 49ers would be fired up.
But if San Francisco wins Sunday at Kezar Stadium, the opposite might hold true for the return match.
But for each contest, the 49ers will have to beat the Rams' long passing by Bob Waterfield and Norm Van Brocklin and swift backs, with the passing the most formidable of the two weapons.
LEFT TO RIGHT are Neil Collins and Bob Crowe, both of Gabriel who went out on the Seabiscuit Wednesday and caught all the above white Sea Bass in just one afternoon's outing; largest fish weighed in around 28 pounds. George Graves, captain of the Seabiscuit stated that this is just an example what's going on in the waters off the coast of California and will be running for the next several weeks.
Joe Louis Tangles with Rocky Marciano Tonight over TV, Radio
NEW YORK (AP) — Aging Joe Square Garden ten rounder, Louis, who wants another shot at This is the big test of his
Anaheim year of 1943 when tied with Santa Ana and Elsior. The last time the locals in a league title was a very poor period when they set a record for winning the loop three years in a row, 1939, and 1941. Newport ended the skim in 1942.
Last week the Anaheim varsity rolled over Santa Ana (26-0) they looked very good in vicinity which really isn't too hard, but if they can get by their tie tonight, they will have and spot pretty well to them and will set up the championship battle next Friday in Renton's stadium.
The game starts tonight at 7:30 the Oilers field and promises the top game of the year for locals, and for that matter, ington Beach. They have the odds flocking to their games a defeat tonight by Anaheim just about finish the Oilers their supporters.
Indians Have Tough Battle With Huskies
SAN FRANCISCO (P) — The Coast Conference football championship race, as well as progress toward the Rose Bowl, spins off another lap tomorrow.
Stanford takes its unsullied record and possible bowl future against a strong Washington team that still cannot be counted out of the chase. The Indians have a 2-0 league ranking and Washington 1-1.
On its home field at Seattle, Washington always is tough and professional odds makers have established it a six point favorite to hand Stanford its first setback in six games.
California, the beaten champion, hopes to bounce back in its Berkeley engagement with bulky Oregon State.
The Bears were tumbled from their No. 1 national ranking last week by the hard driving Southern California Trojans, the first defeat for California in 39 regular season games.
Oregon State, which has lost conference clashes to USC and Washington State apparently is out of contention for the title.
Washington State, also twice loser in the circuit, is expected to easily increase its percentage standing in its pullman meeting with Oregon, three times defeated in the league.
Southern California, now the top contender for the big prizes, steps outside to take on Texas Christian. The Trojans, following their smashing win over California, figure to turn back-the team from the southwest despite the latter's upset of Texas A & M.
The odds makers favor USC by 13 points.
Joe Louis Tangles with Rocky Marciano Tonight over TV, Radio
NEW YORK (P) — Aging Joe Louis, who wants another shot at the heavyweight crown more than anything else in the world, risks that chance tonight when he faces young, undefeated, hard-hitting Rocky Marciano in a Madison Square Garden ten rounder.
This is the big test of his back for the 37-year-old Bomber and he knows it. To the hard-hitting, 27-year Brockton, Mass., belter means end of the trail for one ring's alltime greats.
The betting professionals bet Louis is approaching the end have established him as a 6 to 5 favorite—the shortest in all of Jarring Joe's career.
By fight time (10 p.m.), the odds may go up to 8 to lowest price ever on Louis the 9 to 5 odds for his second with Max Schmeling. And know what happened—Max knocked out in 2:04 of the round.
But 13 years have gone by then and apparently so has of the old dynamite in theer's right fist. His reflexes dulled and there isn't much semblance between the younger of 13 years ago and the best campaigner of today.
Louis, however, feels enough left to 'whip the rough ex-Gi who has come up a rocket.
"I'll beat him," said "Maybe knock-him out."
"I'll win," said Rocky, "or knock him out. I think I can anyone in the world."
It's the old story of the veteran on the downgraded eager, hungry youngster rise. And the ancient drama ring will lure over 15,000 fans a gross gate of around $150.
Millions more will watch struggle via coast to coast casts by NBC. The radio cast will be over ABC.
PC Baseball Loop Seeks Extension On Rookie Rule
LOS ANGELES (P) — Directors of the Pacific Coast baseball league say they are a little nearer relief from the major leagues on the ticklish draft law.
None of the directors annual winter meeting would confirm the details; but reliable sources said the PCL is aiming at, and may achieve, an extension of the four-year rule on rookies.
Major league clubs cannot draft a player until he has served four years in the minor leagues.
A longer term in the minors—the PCL included—to afford it a longer time to build up reputations and gate appeal—is sought.
The Coast league, through president Clarence Rowland, announced formally that the directors had approved a counter-proposal, with some modifications, relayed back to it by Commissioner Ford Frick and his major league committee.
The PCL had demanded relief on threat of going independent.
The coast long has protested the draft law, under which its stars can be drafted for $10,000 each.

Cee Gridders Continue League Race Undefeated in HB Rout
Undefeated, Untied and all Alone in first place in the Sunset league race are the local high school Cee's and by the power displayed in the two loop games they seem destined to stay there for the rest of the season, if they can get by Fullerton next week.
Yesterday on a cold and windy Huntington Beach football field, the Colonist Cee team blanked the Oilers 40-0 to display one of the most dangerous attacks ever seen wearing the Blue and Gold uniforms, in either varsity or Bee class.
They were truly terrific as they rolled up and down the field scoring almost at will. They ate up hugh chunks of earth by running for a total of 172 yards then they took to the airplanes where they picked up 90 for a grand total yardage from scrimmage of 262 compared to the Oilers 142.
In other league games yesterday Fullerton kept in the running by rolling over a hapless Newport eleven, 28-6, to set up the championship game over at Fullerton next Thursday afternoon. Neither team has lost a league victory, although the Braves were tied 7-7 by Huntington Beach last week. The Fullerton Indians were league champs of 1950 and are in a good position to repeat if they get by the locals next week.
Henry Herrera who came into the game and proved to be the sneakiest thief on the whole field as he reached up and stole three of the team's interceptions.
Al Gastelum started the locals off right when he recovered an Oller fumble early in the first period for a first down on the eight yard line.
Lupe Gonzales tried to make some yardage but only could get back to the line of scrimmage. Gouyd then carried the ball into the end zone on a triple reverse from Grover to Weaver.
Tinker to Evers to Chance.
Mike Beach crashed in to the Oller passer from his left end defensive position to block one of his many passes, the team tried 17, but due to the hard charging line he could only complete five, the same number the Colonist's made good.
Coaches Dick Glover and Dick Ryan substituted freely after the half and would have sooner, but for the ill-timed remarks the Oller coaches and spectators were tossing freely around.

Just about everyone was a standout in yesterday's rout of the Oilers. To single out all, which they all certainly deserve, would fake reams of paper, but I would like to bring to light the frats of several of the players.
Mickey Gouyd, halfback, galloped for a grand total of 91 yards on the ground. He scored touchdowns on runs of seven and 46 yards, took a Paul Grover pass good for 11 yards, intercepted a pass and ran it back for 60 yards besides blocking like a demon and tackling so hard that it actually brought cheers from the stands in due respect to his all out play.
Leroy Weavor, the other first string halfback, went on a scoring rampage by crossing the goal line four times op runs of four, two, nine, and four in that order. He took a Grover pass for seven yards and intercepted a pass when the Oilers looked like they might score. He stopped the drive on the 18-yard line.
Grover, Lupe Gonzales, Dan Salaets, Mike Beach and the whole Colonist line were instrumental in the rout of Huntington. One of the defensive stars was
